Our stay at Alila Seminyak was so great that I had so much to say about them! This is part two of the Alila Seminyak series. This time, it’s about our dining experience at the beautiful Seasalt restaurant, the main restaurant at the hotel. Our stay with Alila Seminyak didn’t include breakfast, so we had planned to pay for breakfast at the Seasalt restaurant on our last day in Bali. But your girl here got “lucky” and was down with food poisoning on our last day! So, in the end, we didn’t get to try their breakfast, and I was so bummed about it. Luckily, we had already dined once at Seasalt on the day of our arrival at Alila Seminyak to try out its signature Sunday Seafood Brunch. Let’s read on to find out more about our experience at Seasalt! ♪ヽ(^^ヽ)♪

✨ BEFORE YOU GO ✨

Cost of the Seafood Brunch at Seasalt (Alila Seminyak)

Alila Seminyak Seasalt had previously stopped having the Sunday Seafood Brunch from February to March 2022. Not sure of the reason, but it was a good thing that they brought it back again~! ( ´ ω ` )

The base price of the Seafood Brunch is 550,000 IDR (before tax and service charge), and it includes a welcome cocktail or mocktail as well as free-flow soft drinks, juices and mineral water. For those who prefer to have alcohol, there is the “Free Flow Cocktail” or “Free Flow Wine & Cocktails” package. Both of them come with their own additional cost. Hubs and I don’t really drink much alcohol, so we went with the basic package. Once we confirmed our package, hubs ordered the welcome cocktail while I had the mocktail. And then it was time to eat~! ٩(◕‿◕)۶

Ala-Carte and Buffet Counters

The Seafood Brunch at Alila Seminyak Seasalt is divided into two parts: ala carte items from the menu or food from the buffet counters. There were SO MANY choices with just the menu alone! For people who don’t eat a lot, like hubs and I, you will be sure to get stuffed here. (*/ω\)

But before we even had time to look through the menu, two lovely gentlemen came to our table to ask if we were interested in the oysters and prawns as well as the bread and seaweed butter. I mean, how can we say no to this delicious food, right?! Serve them all to us~! (☆ω☆) Both the oysters and prawns were SUPER FRESH. We don’t really eat a lot of oysters, but these were GOOD. And you MUST have the seaweed butter with the bread ‘cos where else can you find such an amazing-tasting butter?! (っ˘ڡ˘ς)

Once that was done, we looked through the menu and ordered them with the staff. And then, it was time to explore the buffet counters. The food at the counters definitely paled in comparison to the ala carte menu. Besides the oysters, prawns and clams, other items look pretty normal to us. We have a small variety to try while we anticipate the ala carte menu items. (๑˃ᴗ˂)ﻭ

Review of the Ala-Carte Menu Items

There are five categories in the ala carte section with a total of 20 menu items. We almost ordered everything on the menu, less some items that didn’t really attract us. (´・ᴗ・ ` ) So I will go through them below, as best as I can, so that you have a better idea of what you’re getting!

Vegetable Category

I never thought that we would be ordering the Vegetable section since I am not a vegetable lover. But the appearance of potato, tofu and mushrooms on the menu does pique my interest as I am a BIG LOVER of them. (´ ω `♡)

The Baby Potatoes were simply potatoes you have at the usual morning buffet. The Agedashi Tofu was pretty normal as well. But when you think that everything was so normal and BOOM! There comes an AMAZING plate of Forest Mushrooms.

Based on the description, it was a mix of oyster mushrooms, sesame, pickled shimeji, duxelles and seared button. The combination of all these mushrooms created amazing umami that is hard to describe. It was so good that I ordered it again towards the end of the meal. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS! (「• ω •)「

Fish & Seafood: Cold Sub-Category

There are a total of three sub-categories under the Fish & Seafood categories, Cold, Hot and Dry Aged. We ordered everything from the Cold sub-category.

Dishes from here on started to get interesting, and I was having a hard time trying to match the photo to the menu item. (@_@) I roped in hubs to help me identify the dishes, and we tried our best with it. So, if something turns out differently, please don’t blame me. Instead, please come back and tell me what I got wrong. Haha!

The Cold Somen Katsuobushi was super normal, so normal I don’t even remember much about it. In case you’re wondering, katsuobushi is bonito flakes. The same goes for the 4-Hours Cold Smoked Sea Fish. I guess it was alright but nothing too wow-ing.

What comes next are two of my favourite items from this category. They are the Smoked Prawn Cocktail as well as the Tuna Chiraishi Don. The smoked prawn went really well with the pickled beetroot. But the best was the Tuna Chiraishi Don, which turned out to be totally different from what we expected. And the taste was off the roof~! It was so flavourful and I loved it so much that I had a second order. Another MUST ORDER item! ヾ(☆▽☆)

Fish & Seafood: Hot and Dry-Aged Sub-Categories

There are four items in the Hot sub-category. We didn’t order one item, the Steamed Sea Bass, as it sounded too normal to us. (´・ᴗ・ ` ) I think dishes from this category are generally pretty normal, with the Confit Fried Octopus being the exception. We hardly had octopus, let alone a fried one, so this dish was rather unique to us.

Calamari Furai & Cured Miso Shiro Sable Fish (I think)

For some very weird reason, we weren’t attracted to the idea of having dry-aged food. I did end up ordering the 3 Days Aged Smoked Unagi Sumibiyaki from this Dry Aged category, of which hubs was like, “Are you sure?”. It’s unagi; what could go wrong? It tasted already, but maybe because it was aged, the unagi tasted kind of different from the usual unagi taste you would expect. It’s okay, but not something I would order again. (´• ω •`)

Meat & Poultry Category

This is the final category in the ala carte menu, and we ordered everything from this category. The Wagyu Short Rib was the only one that stood out from this category. It was really soft and nice, though a tad bit salty. The Lemon Chicken was alright, but the weakest dish was definitely the Aka Miso Pork Belly. The pork belly was served with ramen, and it just didn’t shine AT ALL for us. ┐( ˘_˘ )┌

It’s Dessert Time!

Dessert is not shown in the menu given and has to be requested separately from the staff. By the time we hit the dessert, our tummies were bursting, so we only ordered two dessert items: the Cold Cheese Cake and the Passion Coco.

The desserts were beautifully presented, and both were great, with a shoutout to the lovely Passion Coco. I love the passion sponge! It was in jelly form and I love the slightly sour taste of the passionfruit. Mixing it with the coconut milk sorbet and passion cream creates a lovely balance in the taste. It is a MUST to have these two dessert items, especially the Passion Coco~! (´♡‿♡`)

Live Performance and Table Seating at Seasalt (Alila Seminyak)

Our reservation was at 1 PM and there were already a lot of people in the restaurant when we reached. We had a REALLY HUGE table and were seated indoors. Even though we didn’t get an ocean view while we dined, it was not an issue for us. We got to enjoy the live band performance, and with no other diners beside us, it was rather peaceful as well. ( ´ ω ` )

However, if you would like to dine with a view, it would probably be better to make a reservation for an earlier time slot. A lot of diners were just chilling with their drinks, enjoying the music, even after they had finished eating. We did the same thing, too, as there was no rush to go anywhere. You might even want to let the reservation team know your preference in case they can make some arrangements. I personally think the tables nearer to the front are pretty close together, so if you don’t mind that, go for it! (´ ∀ ` *)

Overall Experience at Alila Seminyak Seasalt

Hubs and I truly enjoyed having the Sunday Seafood Brunch at Alila Seminyak Seasalt. Even though the dishes had some hits and misses, the overall taste was still fantastic. We appreciate the lovely presentation of each dish. We also love the little surprises when some of them turn out different from what we expected.

Service was also top-notch from the team at Seasalt. The staff serving our table would check in with us once in a while, asking if we wanted any non-alcoholic drinks or more food. It felt good to be taken care of by the Seasalt team, and I highly recommend trying out this Seafood Brunch. (´ ω `♡)
