After four days of staying in a private villa in Seminyak, it was time for us to head off to a hotel before we ended our trip! And where better to be than the wonderful Alila Seminyak and its Ocean View Suite? ٩(。•́‿•̀。)۶ I didn’t expect myself to have so much to say about our stay at Alila Seminyak so this is part one of the Alila Seminyak series. Without further ado, let’s go and explore the wonderful Ocean View Suite that we have booked at Alila Seminyak! ☆ミ(o*・ω・)ノ

Why the Ocean View Suite @ Alila Seminyak

With the many private villas in Bali, hubs and I would usually opt to stay in them instead of hotels. But as explained in my introductory post, we were playing it safe for this trip. As such, we booked ourselves a stay in COMO Uma Ubud to start off our trip and then with Alila Seminyak to end our trip, which honestly was the best decision we had ever made for this trip. More on this later if you have not read about THE INCIDENT. (´ ε ` )♡

With so many beachfront properties in Seminyak, you might wonder why we chose Alila Seminyak. We have stayed in two Alila properties in the past as well as visited Alila Ubud and Alila Seminyak for their spa. All of them have been nothing but amazing in their service. So we told ourselves that given a chance, we would try to stay at Alila Seminyak. And the time was now. (´• ω •`)

Since Alila Seminyak is a beachfront property, we decided that the best thing to do was to stay in a room where we had a sea view! So we booked ourselves an Ocean View Suite at Alila Seminyak, excited to enjoy the sea breeze and listen to the sound of the waves, which turned out to be more than what we expected. (´・ᴗ・ ` )

Journey to Alila Seminyak

Our private villa is located just beside Revolver Espresso. With our past experiences with Alila’s properties, I was hoping Alila Seminyak would offer us a complimentary pick-up service. We were after all only a 7-minute drive from the hotel. But sadly no. We would have to pay IDR 332,750 (nett) per car per way. For such a short ride, it was totally not worth it. (⊙_⊙)

Luckily we could order a GrabCar or Gojek easily in Seminyak so all was good. But what wasn’t was that our villa was located in such a hidden alley! We had to keep re-booking our car as our drivers kept missing the turning point. We had to ask our villa manager for help to guide the final driver to us else I believe it would be a never-ending process of re-booking our car. (´-ω-`)

Time to Check In~!

It was a pretty fast ride to Alila Seminyak and in no time, we were there~! We handed over our pieces of luggage to the concierge and headed over to the seating area to wait for someone to do the check-in with us. While waiting, welcome drinks and cold towels were served. Since there weren’t a lot of people doing check-ins, the process was quite fast. We also realised that our rates do not cover breakfast so I was a teenie bit upset that we would have to pay extras for it. (╥_╥)

Anyway, since we checked out of our private villa at 11 AM and came straight to Alila Seminyak, our room was unfortunately not ready for check-in yet. So hubs and I decided to hang out at the Beach Bar to wait for the hotel staff to text hubs once the suite is ready, which didn’t take too long. Onwards to our Ocean View Suite~! ٩(。•́‿•̀。)۶

Welcome to Alila Seminyak Ocean View Suite

We finished our drinks at the Beach Bar and headed to the reception counter to get our key cards. We were happy to know that we were given a room on the highest floor, on Level 3! When we reached the room, our pieces of luggage were already there. (๑˃ᴗ˂)ﻭ

The size of the Ocean View Suite is bigger than I expected. There was a reasonably sized living area where we could enjoy watching the TV while having our in-room dining, which is exactly what we did. ( ´ ω ` ) Other than that, we hardly used this area since we were mostly hanging out on the balcony, which was the highlight of the room~!

View from the Ocean View Suite’s Balcony

We would lie down on the day bed on the balcony, to enjoy the ocean view while listening to the sound of the waves. Since our room is located beside the adult-only swimming pool, we would also just sit on the day bed and people-watch. We even ended up falling asleep on the day bed under the humid weather. It was THAT comfortable to be out on the balcony. (´ ∀ ` *)

Besides the great view, another great thing about staying at Alila Seminyak is that we can enjoy the sunset right from our balcony! You got that right! All the beach properties along Petitenget Beach have a sunset view! This also means that all the restaurants and bars located here are usually crowded around sunset. So having a room with a sunset view helped us to avoid having to get a table early to enjoy the setting sun. ٩(◕‿◕)۶

Sound of the Waves…

Anyway, speaking of the waves, we were honestly expecting to hear the soothing sounds of the waves. But turned out, for whatever reason, the waves were CRAZY LOUD. They were crashing onto the beach SO HARD with such a thunderous sound! (⊙_⊙)

Since we were at Petitenget Beach before, we were surprised to witness the crazy waves this time. We asked the staff if it has always been like that but seems like it is usually calmer. I don’t know but it was crazy. Alila Seminyak uses really good soundproofing walls and windows and even with that, we would still hear the very muffled sound of the waves during high tide at night. Σ(O_O) I have included a video below for you to experience the thunderous waves. (´・ᴗ・ ` )

That being said, we were really grateful that Alila Seminyak had such great soundproofing. I cannot imagine trying to fall asleep to the thunderous waves. (*/ω\)

Beautiful Bathroom Area with Full Bathroom Amenities

The bathroom area at Alila Seminyak reminded us of our stay at Alila Villas Uluwatu, which has a similar concept of having a longish bathroom. The shower is just beside the bathtub, making it easy for us to access it once we are done enjoying the tub. No more trying to walk from the bathtub to the shower area with our wet bodies and feet~! (´• ω •`)

The bathtub is just beside the balcony but sadly, it does not have a view for you to enjoy when you are in the tub. For couples staying in this Ocean View Suite, you would be pleased to know that the bathtub can fit two adults comfortably~! ٩(♡ε♡)۶

Alila Seminyak also included a full collection of amenities in their bathroom. I always loved Alila’s amenities. They always have very nice-smelling shampoo, conditioner and shower gel. There is no exception this time as well. They even included their signature sunscreen in case you didn’t bring yours~! So thoughtful of them! (*♡∀♡)

Things Worth Mentioning

Surprise Box?

One day when we got back from the swimming pool, we noticed a wooden box on the living room table. Upon opening it, there were some traditional Indonesian desserts inside! It must be from when the staff came in to make up our room. Didn’t know Alila Seminyak had such a nice gesture. We love it when hotels and resorts plan such little surprises for their guests. (´• ω •`) ♡

Is that… Fireworks?!

On our first night in our Ocean View Suite, while we were enjoying a movie, we suddenly heard some loud popping sound coming from outside. The curious us went to our balcony and saw fireworks coming from the direction of Potato Head! w(°o°)w

Not sure if this happens only on certain days or if it is for some event but the fireworks went on for a good 5 – 10 minutes. It was such a cool and nice surprise, being able to enjoy fireworks from our room. ヽ(*・ω・)ノ

The Incident

As mentioned earlier, choosing to stay at Alila Seminyak turned out to be one of the best decisions that we had made for this trip to Bali. Everything went well for the whole trip until the very last day. I woke up wanting to vomit and having diarrhoea in the early hours. It went on for a while before we realised that I might have food poisoning. (ノД`)

So hubs decided to call reception to seek assistance, asking if their in-house doctor was around to help take a look at what was happening to me. Unfortunately, the staff could not reach the doctor and we decided to go to a nearby hospital, Siloam Hospital, instead. Hotel staff were already on standby in the lobby when we came down from our room. They then gave us a ride to the hospital which was about 10 – 15 minutes away.

Luckily, the hospital staff were all able to speak great English, maybe due to the large number of foreigners in Bali. While hubs was settling the administrative stuff, a doctor came to diagnose my issue, which was confirmed to be food poisoning. Everything was done within 30 – 45 minutes. We paid, collected my meds and had the Alila staff drive us back to the hotel.

We had so many plans for the last day. I wanted to enjoy the beautiful pool again as well as have the hotel’s breakfast. But all I could do was lie in bed in pain and rush to the toilet. I was even worried that we might not be able to take a flight back to Singapore, which in itself was a torturous 1.5 hours home. (つω`。)

Special Thanks to Alila Seminyak

Since I was in no condition to have breakfast at the hotel’s restaurant, hubs had called reception to ask if we could have a special order of porridge for me. The hotel knew about my case and was so nice to prepare a complimentary chicken porridge for me as breakfast. o(TヘTo)

I don’t know about other people but this experience has made me love Alila even more. The way that the staff helped us throughout the whole incident was fantastic, right until the end. So I would like to give a shoutout to all the staff from Alila Seminyak who were there to help us in the wee hours of 19 July. Thank you for showing such great service and support when my hubs and I needed it. (ღ˘⌣˘ღ)

Overall Experience

Needless to say, our stay with Alila Seminyak has been one of the most memorable experiences of our Bali trip. If you are looking for a beautiful beachfront property in Seminyak, I think Alila Seminyak might be the one for you with its top-notch service. I would highly recommend staying at the Ocean View for its fantastic ocean view as well as the amazing sunset as seen from the balcony. ♡(。- ω -)

The Ocean View Suite at Alila Seminyak is, without a doubt, one that we would come back to when the cost is not taken into consideration. However, with the many private villa choices in Bali at a more affordable price, sadly we would not be back to stay with Alila Seminyak anytime soon. But that being said, we will always be back here for its amazing spa when we are in Seminyak. (´,,•ω•,,)♡
