Did you know that there is a beach near Hoi An called An Bang Beach? I didn’t know about it until hubs mentioned it! With this newfound knowledge, we dedicated half a day to checking out the beach. After a massage and a walk on the beach, we headed to An Bang Beach Village Restaurant for our lunch. Unlike other restaurants with a sea view, this restaurant is found hidden in an alley (again!). (´・ᴗ・ ` ) To know if the food is worth sacrificing the sea view, you must keep reading to know more~! (@´ー`)ノ゙

Why We Chose to Visit An Bang Beach Village Restaurant

Like all famous beaches, An Bang Beach has many restaurants and cafes lining the shore. We planned to have lunch before finding a place to hang out and enjoy the sea view. With that in mind, we didn’t have to restrict ourselves to finding a beachside restaurant and were able to widen our selection to all restaurants in the area.

Hubs and I were interested in trying seafood in Vietnam. Considering we are near the beach, we thought finding a seafood restaurant here would be nice. And that was when we came across An Bang Beach Village Restaurant. Even though it was found off the beach, it has many glowing reviews on Google. So, we checked it out to see if the food was as good as people said. (´• ω •`)ノ

Fantastic Seafood Experience At An Bang Beach Village Restaurant

Finding An Bang Beach Village Restaurant was not supposed to be tough. Hubs was leading us to the path that would get us to the restaurant easily. But you know what happened? A dog blocked the entrance to the pavement, and I got scared. ٩(× ×)۶ So, we ended up walking a big round to get to the restaurant. And we got a bit lost along the way. (´-ω-`)

Alleys in Vietnam are no joke, and this was not our first time getting lost trying to find a place in the alleys. With a bit more time, we finally found the sign pointing us to An Bang Beach Village Restaurant! Phew. Compared to the number of people on the beach, there was surprisingly no one dining in the restaurant. I guess being away from the beach might have its effects since it was supposed to be lunchtime when we got there.

Beautiful Decorations with a Welcoming Owner

The interior and exterior of An Bang Beach Village Restaurant were beautifully decorated. If you are to walk down this alley, you will not miss it as it is the most uniquely decorated restaurant here. (ᵔ◡ᵔ) Yellow and blue were the primary colours used in the decorations, which helped give the restaurant its vibrant look and feel.

Dong, the owner, welcomed us enthusiastically when we got to the restaurant. Once seated, he recommended some of the dishes we should have here. Following his advice, we ordered Grilled Scallops, Whole Red Snapper and Seafood Fried Rice, all under the Chef’s Favourite Recommendation on the menu. ( ´ ω ` )

Watching the Live Cooking in Action!

Once we made our order, it was time for the staff and kitchen to get busy! While they were doing that, hubs and I started taking photos around the restaurant. I have always loved restaurants and cafes with beautiful decorations, and I could take many photos to share with you guys! ⸜( *ˊᵕˋ* )⸝ Just when we were about done, we saw a staff preparing the charcoal grill outside the restaurant. Yay to being able to watch our food being cooked live in front of us~! (๑˃ᴗ˂)ﻭ

Our scallops were placed on the grill, and a generous amount of sauce and toppings were placed on each scallop. It has been a while since I had BBQ on a charcoal grill, and I can’t help but drool from smelling the scallops’ aroma. (っ˘ڡ˘ς) After a while, the scallops were served to our table, together with the seafood fried rice that was prepared in the kitchen. Time to dig in~!

Simple Seafood Fried Rice with Amazing Scallops

The Seafood Fried Rice was quite simple. I wouldn’t say it was wow-ing, but it wasn’t bad, as expected of fried rice. It came with bite-sized seafood and had a good amount of wok hei. In case you didn’t know what wok hei is, it is the smoky flavour coming from cooking on the wok, which is a good thing to have in fried rice. The rice was not lumpy, which was what hubs and I liked. Dong recommended adding some sweet chilli sauce to the fried rice, slightly elevating the flavour. But what made the fried rice even better was the scallop toppings.

As mentioned earlier, a good amount of sauce and toppings were placed on top of the scallops on the grill. They were then further topped with crispy fried shallots before being served to our table. The Grilled Scallops were absolutely fresh and juicy. Eating them together with the toppings created an explosion of flavour in our mouths. It was amazingly delicious! (๑˃ᴗ˂)ﻭ

Since the toppings worked so well with the scallops, hubs decided to try mixing some with the fried rice. And oh-la-la~! It made the fried rice taste so much better! If you order scallops with your fried rice, try this out to give an extra boost to the flavours of your rice! Trust me, you won’t regret it~! (>ᴗ•)

A Long Wait that was Worth it

Initially, I thought we would see the staff cooking our snapper on the charcoal grill. But once the scallops were done, there was no more action. Boohoo. (´-ω-`) The scallops were so good that we couldn’t help finishing them, and by then, the red snapper was still nowhere to be seen. We wanted to pair the fish with fried rice, so we decided to slow down our pace to wait for the red snapper to be served.

After waiting about 20 to 25 minutes, the kitchen finally served the red snapper to our table! It was wrapped in banana leaves, and when we lifted the leaf, a plain-looking fish stared back at us. We chose to have the Red Snapper grilled with Salt and Fresh Chilli, so maybe that was why it looked so plain. But I must say I was expecting it to look prettier. Haha! But you know what? Looks can be deceiving!

Hubs and I took a bite of the red snapper. And we were blown away by the freshness and intense flavour! The red snapper was so fresh that simple seasoning was enough to make this dish absolutely fantastic! I totally did not expect salt and chilli to make the red snapper so flavourful. Every bite was a dance on my tongue. The meat was so soft and tender. Hubs and I were initially doubtful that we could finish one whole fish. But we wiped it straight out because it was so darn good! The wait was long, but it was so worth it! ⸜(*ˊᗜˋ*)⸝

Overall Experience at An Bang Beach Village Restaurant

Since there was no one else in the restaurant, Dong came over to make small talk with us while we were waiting for our food. When we told him we were from Singapore, he shared about his family trip to Singapore and how lovely our country is. He also told us how the transportation system was confusing for them compared to Vietnam. Hehe. It was pretty refreshing to hear this, as most people always told us how expensive Singapore is and nothing else. I know Singapore is costly, but I would always love to know what else tourists think about our country occasionally. (ᵔ◡ᵔ)

Dong was exceptionally welcoming, and it almost felt like we were dining at a friend’s house. After we paid our bills, the staff even gave us complimentary mangoes, which was such a lovely gesture! You can never go wrong coming to An Bang Beach Village Restaurant for its amazing seafood and hospitality.

If you want a different experience, you can even consider taking their cooking classes! I am sure it would be just as good, seeing how Dong has been so amazing to us. So, if you are visiting An Bang Beach, consider ditching the sea view and coming to An Bang Beach Village Restaurant for a meal and experience! (´ ω `♡)
