Getting massages is one of the best things to do while in Bali! So even though we already had one session in Ubud, we couldn’t miss out on having another one in Sanur. There are many options in Sanur, but we decided on Chantara Wellness & Spa because of all the good things we read on Google. However, we left the place feeling slightly disappointed. (´-ω-`) If you are considering visiting this place for massage, continue reading as I share our experience. (´• ω •`)ノ

Walking to Chantara Wellness & Spa in Sanur

The silliest thing we did that day was walking from our villa to Chantara Wellness & Spa. I don’t know what came over us that day as it was a totally illogical decision. Haha! It was a clear sky day with a scorching hot sun, so walking for 20 minutes under this kind of weather is definitely not the wisest thing to do. (*/ω\)

We decided to take that path that had us walking beside the main road. At times, we even had to walk on the road as there was no walking path. It was torture walking under such conditions that I was complaining all the way. I am sure hubs was driven crazy by me during this period. LOL.

Reception Area & Welcome Drink

So, when we saw Chantara Wellness & Spa in the distance, a huge relief washed over me. I thought, “Yes, gonna enjoy some air-conditioning to cool down soon!”. Imagine my surprise when we walked into the place; it was so stuffy. I don’t know if there is any air-conditioning in the reception area or if the air-conditioning was too weak, but we were sweating buckets while waiting. Right then, I think it would have been better if we were outside. At least it is slightly windy. ٩(× ×)۶

While waiting for our room to be ready, we were given a choice between ginger tea or cold water with lime as our welcome drink. We obviously went for the latter since hubs and I desperately needed something to cool us down. (×_×)

Confusing Service Before Our Massage

So when the room was ready, the staff at the reception asked us to proceed to the second floor by ourselves. I am not being picky, but isn’t it usual to have one of the massage therapists bring us to the room? Hubs and I thought that was slightly odd but just brushed it off, thinking someone would be waiting for us upstairs. But when we got to the second floor, no one was there to greet us! After a short moment, two ladies appeared and were shocked when they saw us. After recovering from their shock, they greeted us. (・・;)ゞ

We then had a quick foot wash in the public area before being shown to our room to change. When I said quick, it was speedy. Massage places we have visited thus far have always taken some time to massage our feet while washing them. But it was done in a rush here at Chantara Wellness & Spa. It’s not a good start to our massage. But once again, we decided to brush it off and continue to hope for the best. (´-ω-`)

About our Massage at Chantara Wellness & Spa, Sanur

Room Soundproofing & Air-Conditioning

Hubs and I think the massage, in general, was okay but had some room for improvement. Firstly, the soundproofing was quite bad. There was a room next to ours, and I could hear the guests entering the room next door to get ready. I thought a wall separated the rooms until I realised later that we were only separated by a set of doors. That is probably why the soundproofing is so bad. (x_x)

Next is the air-conditioning in the room. I hoped the room would be nice and cool when we arrived since we had to wait in the reception for them to get ready. But when we went in, it seemed like the air-conditioning was just turned on. Luckily, the massage therapists adjusted the air-conditioning after we got on the massage bed, so it was cooler and more comfortable throughout the massage. Phew.

Standard of Massage Therapists

We opted for Chantara Wellness & Spa’s signature aromatherapy massage. Since we have been to many places for aromatherapy massages, it was obvious that our massage therapists were not experienced enough. The pressure was just nice but not consistent. It could be good at some point that I could relax. And at the next moment, the pressure was all lost. (・・;)ゞ

The pamphlets at the reception area showing the spa menu as well as the spa academy at Chantara Wellness & Spa in Sanur

After our massage, we saw pamphlets about the massage academy by Chantara Wellness & Spa in Sanur. Since both our massage therapists looked so young, we guessed it might be because they were apprentices. Well, everyone starts somewhere, so I hope that with more experience, they will get better.

Overall Experience at Chantara Wellness & Spa, Sanur

We came to Chantara Wellness & Spa in Sanur as the reviews on Google were quite good. I must say both hubs and I were disappointed with our overall experience. The massage we got was generally okay, but the experience, on the whole, was lacking a lot due to the inexperienced staff and service. I understand that everyone starts somewhere, but I personally think there should be a standard a massage place should uphold before having apprentices give massages to guests.

Even now, reviews are generally quite good. So, I don’t know if it was our luck or if people were coming here with lower expectations. Given the choices in Sanur, I think hubs and I would look for another place to try in future. If you consider visiting Chantara Wellness & Spa while in Sanur, maybe come here with lower expectations. And maybe you will leave the place happier. ┐(‘~`;)┌
