Continuing from last week’s post about our stay at the Pool Suite at COMO Uma Ubud, I would be sharing about the food you can eat and the activities you can do at the hotel in this post! So let’s go~! ε=ε=┌( >_<)┘

BEFORE YOU GO

Breakfast at Kemiri

Kemiri is one of the two restaurants in COMO Uma Ubud. During our stay, it was serving breakfast exclusively. Depending on the hotel’s schedule, it seems like the restaurant would be serving special dinners on certain days. ( ´ ω ` )

Anyway, breakfast was served ala-carte style. We had the option to choose one item from each section. I am sure with the superb service, you could order an extra portion if you are really hungry. That DID NOT happen to us ‘cos the breakfast was super filling! And delicious~! (っ˘ڡ˘ς)

Side Orders for Breakfast

From the fruit, yoghurt pots and cereal categories, we both decided to have yoghurt pots for both breakfast days since finding a newfound love for yoghurts after staying at The Residence Bintan. As someone who is not adventurous with food, I tend to go back to the same food once I found something I like. When I discovered the delicious yoghurt pot, I decided to have the same one the next day. (´・ᴗ・ ` )

For the juices, you could choose the fruit combination you want or select one of the existing choices from the list. We also ordered one portion of the assorted basket of house-baked instead of two, ‘cos we know that we would be too full to eat them. (*/ω\)

Our Main Dish, Wishing for More Options

There are six options for the main dish as well as special for the day on the menu and I wished there were more to choose from. There wasn’t much that I wanted to try so I went with the no-brainer choice, Eggs Your Way, aka American Breakfast. Hubs had the special order for the day, Nasi Lemak.

I chose to have everything included for my dish and it was SO FILLING. I never thought that I would say this but the kale was so delicious! There was even my favourite smoked salmon in it so it was a super satisfying meal. I highly recommend having this dish if you want a super filling breakfast! (b ᵔ▽ᵔ)b

For the second day, I surprised hubs by ordering an Indonesian dish. Yeah, I usually don’t order the local dishes for breakfast. (¬‿¬ ) I decided to go with Bakso Ayam while hubs had the Nasi Goreng. I had Soto Ayam at The Residence Bintan previously and it was not good. LUCKILY for me, the Bakso Ayam was great! It’s marked as a healthy dish on the menu but it tasted good nonetheless, especially the bakso/chicken dumplings. ٩(。•́‿•̀。)۶

All in all, the breakfast was fantastic for both of us and the food portions, in general, were really generous as well. I would have wished there was more variety though. I am already having problems deciding what food to eat even though we only stayed for two nights here at COMO Uma Ubud. Can’t imagine if we were to stay longer. (´-ω-`)

Dining at Uma Bar

Uma Bar is a poolside bar at COMO Uma Ubud and besides serving drinks, they also serve a wide variety of food. Since we had freshly arrived at Ubud, we decided to stay in the hotel to settle our lunch. The poolside tables were almost full when we got there as a lot of guests were seen having their meals there as well.

Sidetracking a bit but guests could smoke at these poolside tables. I didn’t know that as usually we don’t see people smoking while we eat in Bali. But for this trip, we have seen a lot of people doing that. Since we are not smokers, sometimes it can be a bother. Luckily our table was kind of far away from the table beside us so we were too bothered by the smoke. But yeah, I have come to learn after a few experiences that I should always choose indoors if possible. ٩(× ×)۶

Anyway, the menu items seem to be a combination of food items from both Kemiri and Uma Cucina. There were local and Italian cuisines as well as some Western dishes. We ordered the Salt & Pepper Squid, Bali Spiced Chicken Wings, Fish Tacos as well as Tiramisu. And we always forget that when dining at such places, bread would always be served before our meal. So yes, we over-ordered again. Haha! (*/ω\)

Yummy Dishes, So Good I Can Have More!

I LOVE THE SQUID~! (๑˃ᴗ˂)ﻭ That’s it, I have shouted out my love for this dish. I love it so much I had thought of having a second order. That’s how good I think it was. Haha! I am a sucker for seafood and they did it right at COMO Uma Ubud. This is a must-order, at least for me, so do give it a try if you’re there!

All the other items were great as well EXCEPT for the tiramisu. It was interesting. There was hardly any alcohol taste to it and it was not cold. I mean I thought that it would come out from a fridge or something but it felt off. It has a unique presentation, looking like a stack of mud. If you like your tiramisu light and watery, this could be your piece of heaven. But not for us though. The taste was not strong enough and way too watery. ┐( ˘_˘ )┌

Dinner by the Bar

For our first dinner, we wanted to eat at Uma Cucina. I asked hubs if we should make a reservation and my dear man said since it’s an in-house restaurant, it should be that bad. Well, he was WRONG. When we reached the restaurant at 8 PM, it was FULL. The staff told us that we could come back later but we decided to make a reservation for the next day instead. Since there weren’t many food choices in COMO Uma Ubud, we decided to go back to Uma Bar for our dinner. (-ω-、)

Since we had sort of eaten dishes that we like during lunch, we were in a bit of a dilemma about what to order. We wanted to leave the pasta and pizza to Uma Cucina but there really wasn’t much we want from the menu so we went with a seafood pizza amongst other dishes. ( ´ ▽ ` )

Delicious seafood pizza is hard to come by since a lot that we tried usually comes with cream base, which is usually too sweet for our liking. The seafood pizza at Uma Bar was good but not as good as the legendary seafood pizza we had at The Residence Bintan. (o˘◡˘o)

We also ordered the Island Fries and Sate. The meat was really soft and tender for the sate and the peanut sauce was thick and creamy. The Island Fries came as a surprise. When they mentioned potatoes on the menu, I didn’t expect them to literally serve us mini potatoes. Haha! (⊙_⊙) It was quite a delicious dish though a bit filling for us~! (´・ᴗ・ ` )

Chilling by the Pool in the Cold

Interestingly, a lot of people were dining and chilling at the tables by the pool when we decided to dine at Uma Bar. So sadly, we had to sit indoors. The thing about the indoor table is that the tables are way too small for having a proper meal. If you are just chilling with drinks and a bowl of light snacks, that might work. But if you are having a proper meal, definitely try to get the poolside tables.

A couple left after we ordered so lucky us got a bigger table for our food. Phew. (´• ω •`) We had really interesting weather while in Bali. It was almost always drizzling and the weather was just not what we expected. I never thought that I would need a cardigan at night while having dinner! (o_O)

It was really nice to chill by the poolside with our drinks while the weather was so cool. I would highly recommend chilling with some food and drinks at the Uma Bar at least once while you’re staying at COMO Uma Ubud. Better still if you have cold Ubud weather! (´• ω •`)ノ

Dinner at Uma Cucina

Uma Cucina is the second restaurant in COMO Uma Ubud, serving Italian food. As I have mentioned earlier, even though Uma Cucina is an in-house restaurant, it was surprisingly crowded. When we reached for our dinner on the second night, there was already a table of probably more than 10 pax having their dinner there. While having our dinner, another big group arrived and left ‘cos they didn’t make a reservation and the restaurant was full. With its location not on the Ubud main street, it was actually kind of a surprise that so many people would come to Uma Cucina to eat. w(°o°)w

Anyway, we ordered their highly recommended arancini as well as Margherita pizza and carbonara. For an Italian restaurant, we were actually surprised that they don’t have a lot of options for pasta or even the staple Aglio olio pasta. We usually don’t order carbonara but we wanted to have a pasta dish so we just went with it. And boy was it a bad decision. ☆(#××)

A Disastrous Dish and A Heavenly Dish

The carbonara was not as creamy as expected and we were partly at fault for not noticing that peas were in the dish. But why are peas in a pasta dish?! It was not good. Nope. Wouldn’t recommend it. AT ALL. I don’t typically like carbonara but this has got to be the worst carbonara we ever had. ٩(× ×)۶ Luckily the other two dishes were okay. The Margherita pizza was good though not the best I have eaten. The saving grace has got to be the arancini ‘cos it was SO DARN GOOD.

Having seen reviews of Uma Cucina on Google as well as seeing how popular it is, I was having high expectations of the food. Food is generally great at COMO Uma Ubud but I was sadly a bit disappointed by our meal at Uma Cucina. If there is only ONE dish you should order, it should be the arancini and nothing else. Or just come here for the arancini. (´・ᴗ・ ` )

Hello, Really Small Gym

For a wellness retreat, I was actually surprised at the size of the gym. It was really small. We walked past once with two people working out inside and I already think that it felt tight. Haha! (´-ω-`)

From what I see, only ONE person could use the free weights and cable machine at any one time while there can be multiple people using the other machines. Overall the space just felt really tight to me. Considering that the hotel has a yoga studio and a yoga pavilion, it seems like their wellness is definitely more skewed towards yoga and meditation than working out in a gym. (´・ᴗ・ ` )

WYSIWYG, I was standing near the door to take a photo of the gym. Space is SO TIGHT! (-_-)

Swimming and Chilling

COMO Uma Ubud has a 25m public pool and I would say it’s a good pool to swim in for those who would love to get some laps in. (。•̀ᴗ-)✧ You just have to take note of the weather though. The constant drizzling weather in Ubud made the water in our private pool REALLY COLD so I could imagine the same for the public pool. We only ever saw ONE person in the pool while everyone else was just chilling at the sun lounger. ~ヾ(・ω・)

It’s Spa Time~!

Since COMO Uma Ubud is a wellness retreat so how can we miss out on having a massage with them right? Interestingly, their menu does not have any Balinese massage, which is really odd since we are in Bali. So on the first day of our stay, we booked ourselves an appointment with them and chose to do their signature COMO Shambhala Massage.

There are a total of four therapy rooms, two with air conditioning and two without. Our room came without air conditioning and it was semi-opened. I was worried that it might be noisy or warm but all was good. It was peaceful during the session with some light rustling from the leaves. The temperature was also just right.

Blended massage oils are used for the COMO Shambhala Massage. The whole massage sequence felt similar to a Balinese massage but yet so different. I don’t even know how to describe the whole experience to you but it was just FANTASTIC. Every move and pressure was just nice. Not too hard to make you sore the next day but not too soft to make you feel nothing. Even our most sensitive calves were also given a good time without the pain. Alila Seminyak used to have our heart for the best massage in Bali and I think we have found a new winner~! (๑˃ᴗ˂)ﻭ

If you are ever in this area, I highly recommend coming to COMO Uma Ubud for their signature massage. It is THAT GOOD. If we are ever in Ubud, we might just pop by for a session and enjoy some arancini after. (*´▽`*)

Complimentary Activities Worth Trying

There are two complimentary activities at COMO Uma Ubud that you can consider trying if you are staying with them. One is the daily morning walk and another is the daily afternoon yoga. Lazy bums being lazy bums, we DID not try both activities. Haha! (´・ᴗ・ ` )

Initially, we had planned to visit the Campuhan Ridge Walk on the second day but the rainy weather kept us in bed and we decided to ditch that idea. And that’s how we ditched the Morning Walk as well. Oops. (*/ω\) According to COMO Uma Ubud’s website, the morning walk is just a short walk near the hotel and it comes with a guide as well. I would probably recommend going to explore the rural settings around the hotel.

I am not much of a yoga person but more of a strength-training person so the yoga sessions didn’t appeal to me as well. While having our breakfast, I did hear people coming back from the morning yoga that it was a great session. So it’s good for anyone who wants to enjoy some stretching and relaxing with their yoga instructor! ( ´ ω ` )

Things Worth Mentioning

The Yoga Studio and Pavilion

If you would like to have a top-down view of the public pool, do go up the stairs at the back of the Uma Bar to the Yoga Studio. You would be able to have a beautiful view of the public pool.

Not sure what the yoga studio is for but it seems like the complimentary yoga sessions are usually held at the yoga pavilion. But since we weren’t interested in yoga, we didn’t think to check out the pavilion until one of the staff told us about the amazing view you can get at there.

So while out exploring the hotel compound, we decided to drop by the yoga pavilion and I tell you, YOU MUST VISIT THIS PLACE. Since our room didn’t come with any view, we didn’t expect that the yoga pavilion would offer such a beautiful view of the river in the valley.ヽ(°〇°)ノ

If you’re like us and not yogis, DO NOT miss out on visiting this yoga pavilion. You would have to walk past the spa area to reach this pavilion. Just remember to avoid the complimentary yoga timings and you would most likely be able to enjoy some relaxing time there. (´ ε ` )♡

Complimentary Shuttle Transport

One of the great things about staying at COMO Uma Ubud is that they have a complimentary shuttle transport to the Ubud Main Street. Due to the occupancy rate, during our stay, the hotel was offering shuttle transport based on request instead of a timed service. So it was really convenient for us when we wanted to visit Ubud Main Street on the second day.

The shuttle transport was more of like the hotel’s private car and the driver would drop us off near the Ubud Temple. We could then call the hotel for the return transport when we were ready to head back. It was all so convenient! And we could avoid the possible trouble with a GoCar or GrabCar in this area as I saw a sign saying they don’t allow such service in this zone. (´-ω-`)

Anyway, two thumbs up to the hotel for offering such a service and to the staff for the great support and service! (´ ω `♡)

Overall Experience

All in all, I think hubs and I enjoyed staying with COMO Uma Ubud. The Pool Suite was great but with some imperfections. If you don’t know what imperfections I am talking about, do head over here to read all about it now~!

As for the food at COMO Uma Ubud, generally, I think everything was great. Except for some dishes which might not be our cup of tea. I would wish that there were more food options at COMO Uma Ubud though. We didn’t stay at the hotel long and I was already thinking I am running out of food options after having a second meal at the Uma Bar. Kemiri looks like it would be a great place for some local food so not sure if they would have that in future. To repeat again, the must-have food at COMO Uma Ubud is the arancini from Uma Cucina! (´ ∀ ` *)

Anyway, I think the most memorable thing about our stay would definitely be the superbly amazing massage. All the staff that crossed paths with us were also impressionable. They were really helpful and friendly and everyone was offering top-notch service. We would have wished for COMO Uma Ubud to be more perfect given the price that we paid but overall, the hotel still lives up to its brand name. ♡(。- ω -)
