Nimmanhaemin, or simply Nimman, is one of the areas we were considering when we were planning our trip to Chiang Mai. The area is known to have a trendy and vibrant vibe where nomads would stay and hang out. Even though we did not stay in Nimman, we still checked it out to see if it would be ideal for our next trip to Chiang Mai. We did not explore a lot so this post would just be a touch-and-go about Nimman. If you are still curious about it, continue reading to find out more~! ☆ミ(o*・ω・)ノ

First Impression of Nimman in Chiang Mai

We took a car from our condominium to Nimman. As we dedicated half a day to exploring the area, we decided to check out a popular cafe in Nimman, Ristr8to Original. The cafe is known for its coffee and latte art. Being coffee lovers, we don’t want to miss the chance of having a good cup of coffee. But when we got there, the cafe was full. (´-ω-`)

Hubs and I initially wanted to just find another cafe to hang out in before having lunch. But we decided against it seeing so many people at almost all the cafes we passed by. It felt as if everyone loves to visit the cafes in Nimman. So we abandoned the idea and instead decided to head over to Khao Soi Maesai for our lunch before exploring Nimman. We spotted a lot of restaurants and cafes along the way. Whoever says that Nimman is trendy and vibrant, they were not wrong as we saw a lot of youngsters in the area, both locals and tourists. (~˘▽˘)~

Checking Out One Nimman & MAYA Mall

The Artsy One Nimman

Once we were done with our super delicious meal at Khao Soi Maesai, it was time for us to head back to the main Nimman area. One of the places that we kept hearing people talking about in videos was One Nimman. So we decided to drop by to check it out. The mall feels really artsy and hubs and I definitely felt like we don’t belong there. Haha! (´・ᴗ・ ` )

There was a flea market outside the mall when we visited. The stalls were mainly selling trendy clothes and crafts works. There was also a food court there, good for people to just have a meal there if they could not decide what to have in the area. But we also noticed a lot of stalls outside the food court are empty. Since it was our first time here, we were wondering if there used to be more things in this area. (・・;)ゞ Anyway, the whole vibe of One Nimman felt totally different from where we stayed. It felt more modern, unlike the Old City where it is more traditional. Even at The Astra Condo, the vibe was more local than here at Nimman.

MAYA Mall, Just A Typical Shopping Mall

Realising that we don’t have much to do at One Nimman, we decided to walk over to Maya Lifestyle Shopping Center aka MAYA Mall. MAYA Mall felt just like any other shopping mall that you have in Bangkok. There is also a cinema to catch the latest movie. We also spotted a co-working space with quite a number of people in there when we were there. The most interesting thing to us at MAYA Mall was an outdoor area where you can have a view of the mountain in the distance.

Unless you prefer to dine at restaurants in a mall, I think there are more choices outside the mall in the Nimman area for your consideration. MAYA Mall is definitely good if you are planning to stay in this area long term as you can get their basic necessities such as groceries and food here. But as a tourist, I don’t think it is attractive except for its air-conditioning which helps cool us down from the heat. (¬‿¬ )

Amazing Foot Massage at Lapas Massage

If you are coming to check out Nimman while in Chiang Mai, don’t forget to also check out Lapas Massage if you want to have a good massage here. Somehow, we just decided to have a foot massage while in Nimman and we chose Lapas Massage after checking out its reviews on Google. Even though the place has a simple setup the massage was AMAZING. (´• ω •`)ノ The strength of the foot massage was on point and it felt really good, so much so that I think I fell asleep after a while. Both hubs and my masseurs were really friendly as well. After the massage, we were even served a drink and some yummy cookies. We are usually quite particular so when we say it is good, please trust us! ( ´ ω ` )

Dinner at Funky Grill Chiang Mai

I have no idea why I chose Funky Grill Chiang Mai for our dinner. But when I was looking around Nimman when planning for our trip, I was intrigued by what they offer. Haha! So we decided to come here to have our dinner. The restaurant is only a short walk from MAYA Mall so it was rather convenient to walk over for our dinner after checking out the mall.

The dining area at Funky Grill Chiang Mai at Nimman

Everything was ordered through its online portal and all the skewers came with mala powder on it. We loved mala most things and we loved the skewers here at Funky Grill Chiang Mai. It seems like the chives were a popular dish ordered by many so we decided to have that as well. Not too bad but would be better if the dish was served hotter. The restaurant seems like a popular location for locals to visit with their friends as a lot of the tables around us were locals having a meal over grilled food or hot pot.

I am not sure if the restaurant had an air-conditioned area but we sat outdoors. Since we were there in November, the evenings in Chiang Mai seemed to be cooler as compared to the daytime. It was quite comfortable for us while dining there and we had a fulfilling meal there. (´• ω •`)

Heavy Traffic in Nimman

Just want to say upfront that my observation is based on this one-time visit to Nimman so this may or may not be a fact. Traffic seems to be really heavy at Nimman. It might have to do with the traffic light at the cross junction. When we were waiting to cross over to MAYA Mall, we missed one of the pedestrian lights and ended up waiting a considerable amount of time before we could cross again. The traffic lights at the junction work in such a way that only one side is able to cross at one time.

Cross junction in Singapore usually works in such a way that both sides are allowed to cross while cars move in the same direction. So if we missed it, it would come back again in the next round. But at the cross junction we were waiting at, we had to wait for it to go a full circle before coming back to us again. So while we were waiting, cars and pedestrians were increasing as well. So during peak periods, a lot of cars would be jammed up waiting for the next traffic light to come.

We had a hard time getting a car to pick us up back to our condominium. We initially booked a car through Grab after our meal at Funky Grill Chiang Mai and the car ended up cancelling on us, most likely due to the traffic. It was so near to us but not moving much. So we ended up walking back to MAYA Mall to try again. We got a car again and similar to the first time, the car also took 2-3 times the amount of time to reach us though it looked so near to us.

Overall Experience at Nimman in Chiang Mai

Overall, I think Nimman is a really nice place to stay if you prefer an area that is more modern and has a nightlife scene. I prefer it as a place for a short stay. But for a longer stay, I would prefer we stay at The Astra Condo. The roads seemed to be quieter and we had access to more local food while also some cafes around. Nimman is the kind of place that I would go to if I want to find a place to chill and hang out on a weekend. Granted, we did not explore a lot while in Nimman but as of what we have seen, that is what I feel about the area. ( ´ ω ` )
