Hubs and I love Sanur’s laid-back vibes. But another great thing about this place is its beach walk! This means if we have longer stays here in Sanur, we could enjoy morning or evening walks by the beach on a proper path. How great is that!? ( ´ ω ` ) So we decided to set aside some time to explore the beach and also visit the Fisherman’s Club at Andaz Sanur for some light snacks as the sunset comes. Continue reading if you are curious about our little adventure at the beach and the Fisherman’s Club in Sanur! (´• ω •`)ノ

Exploring the Beach in Sanur

Compared to our stay at Ubud, Sanur was exceptionally hot and sunny when we were there. There was NOT a single drop of rain, and I wished we had this weather in Ubud, too. Haha! Anyway, with this kind of weather, it was good for us to check out the beach in Sanur and see how great the beach walk here is!

Our Initial Impression of the Beach

One thing that caught our attention was the number of boats parked in the water and on the beach. I supposed these can be rented for a day trip out to the seas as there are vendors along the beach walk selling their packages. I admit I have not been to many beaches in Bali, with the other being Seminyak. So, I wasn’t ready for how cluttered the beach looked. But you can also say this brought some character to the otherwise pristine look of the beaches in other places.

Many boats in the sea and on the beach at the Sanur beach

Besides that, there are also a lot of restaurants and cafes along the beach walk. Like a lot, a lot. You will be spoilt for choice when deciding which place to have a drink while chilling to the waves, which was relatively mild compared to what we experienced in Seminyak. Even though it was SUPER HOT, we spotted many people dining, running, walking and cycling here. All was great until we came upon a surprising sight.

A Surprising Sight of Sanur Beach

This sight actually took us by surprise. There was so much trash that was washed up on the beach! It was pretty sad to see this side of a place. I can never understand why garbage is thrown into the sea/ocean. Like why can’t things be properly disposed of? Of all the videos we have seen online about Sanur, we have never seen a sight like this. (´-ω-`) That said, many people were still enjoying their time on the beach, albeit not near the area littered with trash. The beaches in front of the luxury hotels were kept nice and pristine, where most people were.

How to Get to Sanur Beach Walk?

I don’t remember which path we took to get to the beach since there are a few ways to get there. Suppose you are going there from Supposee main street, i.e. Jl. Danau Tamblingan, I highly recommend taking the sheltered path at Jl. Pantai Batu Jimbar. With Maya Sanur Resort & Spa on one side and some properties on the other, reaching the beach on a super hot day was comfortable. Also, this is a proper pavement for people to walk on, though motorbikes might occasionally ride along here. Other than that, this path was perfect! (ᵔ◡ᵔ)

The sheltered path to and fro the beach and Sanur's main street

However, if you are taking this path at night, note that there are not a lot of street lights. So this path would be kind of dark, so have your mobile phone’s torchlight ready! You will need it, and you know why? Because we spotted quite some dog sh*t along the path during the day. Haha! So, having some light will help you avoid stepping on them. (´・ᴗ・ ` )

Why We Chose Fisherman’s Club at Andaz Sanur

After exploring the beach, it was time for us to find a place to chill and hide from the sun! As mentioned, there were a lot of restaurants along the beach walk, and it was tough trying to decide which one to go to. Eventually, we decided to settle with the Fisherman’s Club at Andaz Sanur as we liked the vibe and the fact that it is in a “gated” area.

If you are scared of dogs, note that many dogs are chilling by the beach. I even see them approaching diners at the restaurants! Since I am scared of dogs and didn’t want that to happen, I thought being in a “gated” area with a guard to keep animals out would be good. That is why the Fisherman’s Club here at Andaz Sanur was ideal for us to chill.

Dining at Fisherman’s Club Sanur

We chose to have a table right beside the beach walk to do some people-watching while enjoying a view of the sea. Since we had some other food in mind for dinner, hubs and I decided to go for some light snacks and drinks here. We ordered the Andaz Dog, Crispy Tofu, CoCoffee and Under the Sun.

The appetiser and the cutleries and napkins at Fisherman's Club, Andaz Sanur

Complimentary appetisers were served while our food was being prepared in the kitchen. Unlike many restaurants that serve you breadsticks or bread, here at Fisherman’s Club Sanur, we were served some deep-fried vegetables. Even without trying them, we already know they were good. The visual reminded us of the deep-fried vegetables they did in Youn’s Stay. (っ˘ڡ˘ς) Anyway, I realised we should have asked the staff what the vegetable was as it was so good! As someone who dislikes vegetables, I approve of this dish, especially when eaten with the dip. (>ω^)

Simple and Delicious Light Snacks

As a tofu lover, I was intrigued by the crispy tofu, so I ordered it. The tofu was cut into small pieces and deep-fried to the right crispiness. I was expecting the tofu to be dense, but it was airy inside. The seasoning reminded us of the pepper and salt seasoning that Taiwanese like to use in their street food. This dish could absolutely be street food somewhere, and we would buy it! I love how simple and nice this was. (๑˃ᴗ˂)ﻭ

The Andaz Hot, a hotdog bun, was also quite good. It has been a while since we had a good hotdog bun in Singapore, where sausage is used instead of chicken frank. We used to order the hotdog bun from MOS Burger, but I guess Singaporeans have no love for it since the item has disappeared from its menu. (´-ω-`) So it was nice to come by a good hotdog bun. The bun was nicely toasted and slightly crisp when bitten into it. It was so good with the pickled cucumber and kimchi that it was gone within seconds. Haha! (*/ω\)

Coffee and Mocktail to Chill to the Sea Breeze

The CoCoffee is coffee with coconut and cream. Hubs thought it would be nice to try something different, and indeed it was! It is somewhat similar to coconut coffee in Vietnam. So, with a sip, you will taste coffee and the fragrant coconut. The mocktail I had was called Under the Sun, which has soursop, mango, citrus and passion syrup, basically, all the citrusy goodness I love in a drink. Haha! It was perfect. (´• ω •`)

Observing a Trend in the Sanur Beach Area

While exploring Sanur Beach and dining at Fisherman’s Club at Andaz Sanur, we observed a trend in this area. We noticed a lot more Asians in this area than when we were walking along the main street. It seems like they were mainly staying at the hotels along the beach since we saw a lot of them coming out from the hotel. We also saw most of them in a group with families or with kids. Maybe it is more manageable to stay at hotels when travelling in bigger groups, especially with families, compared to a standalone villa. Well, I’m not sure of the reason, but it’s just an interesting observation we made while here. (ᵔ◡ᵔ)

Overall Experience at Fisherman’s Club, Andaz Sanur

It was nice to chill at Fisherman’s Club in Andaz Sanur while we enjoyed the sea breeze and looked at the people walking by us on the beach walk. There was hardly anyone near us, so having the whole area to ourselves was nice. Service was top-notch here at the restaurant. The staff was excellent and always ensured we had everything to enjoy our time here with them.

People watching and some photos taken from our seat when the sun has set, as well as our food from earlier at Fisherman's Club, Andaz Sanur

It also got exceptionally windy as it got darker, which we didn’t expect since the waves were mild at the beach. One of the staff told us this was seasonal when we asked if it was always so windy. I supposed that is why many people were sitting indoors instead, except for us. LOL. Anyway, if you want a sheltered experience with some nice light snacks and drinks, the Fisherman’s Club at Andaz Sanur will be the place to visit! ⸜( *ˊᵕˋ* )⸝
