Since Da Nang has many Korean restaurants, we would be letting ourselves down if we didn’t have at least one of them! Since hubs and I have visited several Korean BBQ restaurants in Singapore, it would only be right to visit one here in Da Nang. A quick search on Google Maps showed us a place called Golden Meat House, which is only a short walk from our apartment in Da Nang. And what greeted us at the restaurant was one of the biggest grills we have ever seen! Will this behemoth of a grill produce meat, rivalling what we had in Singapore? Come along with me to find out more~! ( ´ ω ` )ノ゙

Why We Chose Golden Meat House in Da Nang

After days of eating Vietnamese food in Hoi An, my taste buds needed something different! Knowing that Da Nang would have a wider variety of cuisines, I have been looking forward to coming here to have a break from Vietnamese food. (´・ᴗ・ ` )

Surprisingly, we realised there are many Korean restaurants in Da Nang. I didn’t know why until I dug more. Apparently, there are many Korean companies in Vietnam. Also, with Da Nang being a short flight away, they could come here for some sun, sand, sea, and food. For these few reasons (and maybe more), Da Nang became a popular place with Koreans. That explains the number of Korean establishments in this area.

Hubs and I always enjoy a lovely meal of Korean BBQ. Thinking about those tantalising meat and delicious side dishes has me drooling. Haha! Anyway, we were curious to know what the standard of Korean BBQ is like here in Da Nang. So, we decided to see what good restaurants were near us, and that was how we came across Golden Meat House. Intrigued by its raving reviews and proximity to our apartment, we decided to check it out to see how good it was. ( ´ ω ` )

Review of the Food We Ate at the Restaurant

Since people said the restaurant can get crowded during meal times, hubs and I decided to go for an early dinner. We spotted many staff resting at the seats near the entrance as we approached the restaurant. So what came after was totally unexpected. When we opened the door, they all stood up and stood in a row to welcome us into the restaurant. That was such a super awkward moment! They made us feel as if we were some VIPs. Haha! (*/ω\) We totally did not expect such a big reaction from the staff.

The restaurant was relatively peaceful since we came before dinner at around 6 PM, with only two other tables of diners. I don’t know if this is the norm with Korean BBQ restaurants in Da Nang, but there were so many service staff here! I would say they probably have a ratio of 1 staff to 2 tables in this restaurant. Even bigger restaurants in Singapore that we have visited don’t have this high a ratio, so that was an interesting sight. You definitely wouldn’t have a problem getting the attention of staff here at Golden Meat House. (´・ᴗ・ ` ) Anyway, not that you need to since they have a button on the table to call for a service staff.

Most Korean BBQ restaurants in Singapore require us to order a minimum of two portions of meat if we are not getting a set. I don’t remember if this is the same here, but we ordered one beef and one pork, as usual. They had this unique Aging Pork Belly in Wrapped Banana Leaf, so we got that and an order of Beef Brisket.

Droolicious Meat and Kimchi

If I am not wrong, the Aging Pork Belly in Wrapped Banana Leaf comes with a side of kimchi. So when it was served to our table, we were amazed at the visual of the kimchi! w(°o°)w It was our first time seeing a whole kimchi served to our table. Most places would serve the kimchi in edible size. But here at Golden Meat House, they brought one bunch of kimchi to the table. They then cut it up and put it on the grill to cook alongside the meat. If you have never eaten grilled kimchi, you have to try it! It was so good the first time we had it in Singapore that hubs made it a habit to do that whenever we visit restaurants that don’t do it for us. The warm kimchi goes so well with the meat. (っ˘ڡ˘ς)

Our beef brisket, pork belly wrapped in banana leaf and the kimchi that came with it

Besides the kimchi, we were also given a wide variety of vegetables to wrap with our meat. These included lettuce, perilla leaves, and carrots. We always chose lettuce, as it made the best combination with grilled meat. But if you like a good variety, they have it here at Golden Meat House. The condiments were the usual ssamjang and salt. There was a third condiment, but we didn’t know what it was. We didn’t ask the staff what it was as well. Oops. (´-ω-`) So, I shall leave it to you to find out, and maybe you can come back and tell me. Haha!

The meat here at Golden Meat House was quite good, especially the pork belly. It was so tender! Pairing it with the kimchi or putting it in a wrap with some salt was perfect. It was a whole mouthful of happiness. (๑˃ᴗ˂)ﻭ So, if you don’t take beef, order the Aging Pork Belly!

Super Cold Noodles for a Hot Day

Two portions of meat are usually more than enough for us. But it wouldn’t be right to come here just for grilled meat without finding out if the side orders are just as good. Golden Meat House seems to focus more on its meat, so the menu has only a small variety of side orders. Luckily, they had one of our most commonly ordered dishes: Cold Noodles! So, we decided to get that so as to compare it to what we have in Singapore.

The Cold Noodles came with a BIG chunk of ice in the bowl. The ice made the noodles so cold that my teeth tingled from sensitivity. That was how cold it was. Haha! Our cold noodles in Singapore were never this cold, so having something THIS cold on a hot day was so good. Now I understand why people on variety shows love having this dish on a hot day. (´• ω •`)

The cold noodles and complimentary side dishes we had

Besides the ice, another interesting thing is that the spicy sauce was served on the side instead of on top of the noodles. This way, people who can’t take too much spicy food can mix in according to how much they want. I thought that was rather thoughtful. Hubs and I absolutely enjoyed the cold noodles here at Golden Meat House. The broth that came with it was light and refreshing. And after mixing in the spicy sauce, it upped the oomph and made it even better. After the heavy taste of the grilled meat, having the noodles helped to balance our palette. ( ´ ω ` )

Things Worth Mentioning about Golden Meat House, Da Nang

Huge Grill, Huge Everything at Each Table

Remember I mentioned the grill at the start of the post? Golden Meat House is probably one of the biggest Korean BBQ restaurants we have visited. They also had one of the biggest grills we have ever seen! You could probably cook for ten people or more on the grill. Haha!

The grill on our table and the interior of Golden Meat House in Da Nang

The table was also massive to accommodate such a huge grill, which took up most of the space. Since the grill occupies the centre of the table, some side dishes were placed on the other side. Even my long hands failed me as I had to stretch hard to reach that bowl of salad on the other side of the table. Haha! This place is definitely good for dining with a big group of friends and family. But for the two of us, it was a stretch. (´・ᴗ・ ` )

Temperature Check and Meat Doneness

Another cool thing about Golden Meat House was the way the staff prepared the grill for our meat. They didn’t stop at just turning on the grill and waiting for it to heat up. The staff used a temperature gauge or something to check that the grill was at the right temperature before putting the meat on the grill! Like, how cool is that?!

Besides the temperature gauge, the staff also brought over a little block. We could use the block to tell the staff the degree of doneness we wanted for the meat. The staff didn’t ask us, and we usually leave it to them to grill the meat for us. So, for those who know how much doneness you want your meat, that is a good way to communicate with them! They really make it quite cool to have Korean BBQ here at Golden Meat House in Da Nang. (・ω<)☆

Overall Experience at Golden Meat House, Da Nang

We definitely made the right choice by visiting Golden Meat House in Da Nang. Not only were the service and food excellent, but the price was also quite affordable. Everything we ate cost us 680,000 VND, translating to less than 40 SGD. Hubs and I absolutely enjoyed our meal here. If you are coming to Da Nang and are spoilt for choice on which Korean restaurant to visit, I recommend checking out Golden Meat House for its Korean BBQ! (@´ー`)ノ゙
