Hubs and I always like to visit a Korean BBQ restaurant after going to the temple. But this time, we decided to try something different! Instead of Korean BBQ, we are going to a Chinese BBQ restaurant called Meow Barbecue! The name is so cute. I can’t help wondering what they offer and if it lives up to our standard. If you are curious how it went, continue reading as I share my experience at this cat-themed restaurant~! (´• ω •`)ノ

Meow Barbecue – Cute Cat Decorations All Around Us!
We visited the Meow Barbecue during the weekday lunch hour, but oddly, there was hardly anyone in the restaurant. I was kind of surprised to see other restaurants having a crowd while it was so empty here. Maybe people prefer to come here for dinner or on a weekend for a get-together instead. We had no idea, but whatever it was, that was good for us so that we didn’t have to queue and could take our time to dine here! ( ´ ω ` )

We were immediately charmed by the restaurant’s adorable cat-themed decoration when we arrived at Meow Barbecue. Even before we stepped inside, we were greeted by the cute mascot statue outside the restaurant. (ᵔ◡ᵔ) Once inside, there are even more of them throughout the restaurant! There is a statue at the front and some illustrations on the table mats and BBQ exhaust pipes. The mascot even did a peekaboo on us on the plates and bowls! One of my favourite parts of the restaurant is the Zodiac wall, where the cat mascot is illustrated as each zodiac sign. They were all so cute! (☆ω☆)

What We Ordered at Meow Barbecue
Just like at a Korean BBQ place, Meow Barbecue also offers different meats and side dishes. Besides the usual beef and pork, the restaurant also offers chicken, one of which is even its signature item. If having meat is not enough, it also has a good selection of appetisers and snacks guaranteed to make you full.
Ever have a dilemma and are not sure what to order? Fret not, as the restaurant also has set meals for people like you and me! The set meals include many of the restaurant’s signature items at a really affordable price. Seeing how affordable the price is, hubs and I decided to get ourselves the Set Meal A for two, which comes with a lot of food for only 48 SGD! w(°o°)w
Meow Signature Hotplate Tofu with Savoury Sauce
The Meow Signature Hotplate Tofu is a must-try for anyone who loves tofu! The sauce is like mapo tofu. And instead of soft tofu, they used pan-fried tofu in the dish. Together with the sauce, the dish was PERFECT. (っ˘ڡ˘ς) My only complaint is that the tofu was a bit too thin. If they were slightly thicker, it would have been better. But other than that, hubs and I really liked this dish! Oh, and if you are wondering if it is spicy, as it looks red in my photo, it is not! So, if you are coming with someone who cannot have spicy stuff, this is a safe dish to order for sharing! (>ω^)

Our set meal also comes with two drinks, Meow Grass Tea and Meow Camelia Lemon Tea. I was not ready for what sounded like a grass drink, so I let hubs have that drink. Haha! But it turned out both drinks were actually quite good! The grass drink is surprisingly not grass! LOL. It is a concoction of kiwi and nata de coco, and it tastes somewhat like a honey lemon drink. The camelia lemon tea was also quite nice. I usually don’t like lemon tea which has too much tea taste, and this one here has a more lemony taste, so it was good. ( ´ ω ` )
Premium Iberico Pork Belly & Signature Chicken with Cheese Dip
I don’t have much to say about the pork belly. It was good, as expected. (´・ᴗ・ ` ) But I want to share more about the signature chicken. We usually don’t order chicken at BBQ restaurants, so I was expecting a lot from this dish since it is one of Meow Barbecue’s signature items.
Surprisingly, the chicken was really tender! The cheese dip has been on the grill since we started eating, so it was nicely melted when we started on our chicken. The chicken came marinated, and it tasted slightly sweet. I think this dish is okay for me, though, honestly, I don’t think I would return for more. I noticed there is a spicy version of this dish. So, if we return here again, I might try the spicy one to see if it is better. Anyway, my taste buds just don’t like sweet marinate too much. (´• ω •`)

That being said, hubs actually enjoyed the chicken more than I do! So this is more of a preference thing. Hehe. Also, this dish filled up our stomachs fast! We had this after the pork belly, and we were ALMOST full after finishing the chicken. Phew. Luckily, we didn’t start with this; otherwise, it would have been a disaster. LOL. (´・ᴗ・ ` )
Meow Signature Spicy Beef & Dessert
This signature spicy beef is the highlight of our meal, as it was absolutely delicious and spicy! The beef was really thin, and the chilli padi and garlic made the beef flavourful. And I repeat, it is really spicy! So, if you can’t take spicy food, you might want to read carefully with this dish. Anyway, the dish was so good I didn’t even remember to take photos of the grilled beef, and it was all gone. Haha! (๑˃ᴗ˂)ﻭ

I thought we had ended with a bang. But sadly, the dessert was a no for me. Since the item is not on the menu, I have no idea what the jello thing in the bowl was. It looked like aiyu, and it came with haw flakes on top of it. It has been ages since I last had haw flakes, so it was so nice to get a bite of bits of them! But other than that, I think the dessert was a tad bit too bland for me. (´-ω-`) I didn’t finish the dessert, but surprisingly, hubs enjoyed it as he finished everything in the bowl. (´・ᴗ・ ` )
Things Worth Mentioning about Meow Barbecue
Option to Cook the Meat Separately
When our meat was served, the staff asked if we wanted to cook the meat ourselves or have them cook for us. We opted for the latter so that we could take photos and videos of the whole process. ( ´ ω ` ) While cooking the meat on the grill, the staff would use the light source attached to the exhaust pipe. I think it is handy at night when it is not bright enough to see what you are cooking. But during the daytime, I thought that was a bit unnecessary. I am ranting as I prefer to take my photos with natural light, and ample light was coming in from the windows! Oh well. (´-ω-`)

Anyway, we started our meal with the pork belly. When the staff finished cooking, she asked if we would like to continue grilling the other meat or if we wanted to finish this batch before moving on to the next. This is similar to our experience at Hyang Yeon BBQ! In that post, I mentioned that giving diners this option is a good idea as it allows them to enjoy the meat while still hot. So, of course, we opted for the latter! (ᵔ◡ᵔ)
Interesting Selection of Sauces as Dips
Like Korean BBQ, where you are given salt and ssamjang as dips, Meow Barbecue has a selection of sauces and dips you can use with your meat. These sauces are found just on the side of our table. If you are unsure which one to try, each has a description below it so you know which is more suitable to use with your meat.

Hubs and I tried all of them, and we both love the Omnipotent Seasoning and Grapefruit Juice. The former goes really well with everything. And if you like spicy stuff, this seasoning definitely helps to make the meat slightly spicy, which I used with the chicken to enjoy it more! (´・ᴗ・ ` ) The Grapefruit Juice, on the other hand, helps to remove the greasiness from your mouth, so it feels less greasy from eating all the grilled meat. Since the sauces are on the table, feel free to try them all to see what is your favourite! (>ω^)
Overall Experience
Since it was my first time visiting Meow Barbecue, I came without expectations. But I ended up leaving the place wanting more, especially the spicy beef! It was so spicy but yet so addictive. (๑˃ᴗ˂)ﻭ Overall, I was surprised by how good the food is here, both the quality and flavours. I was also surprised by how much food we had at the given price. It was definitely a good deal and a good meal for hubs and me. ( ´ ω ` ) So, if you are planning for your next get-together, consider trying this place!
