After trying the Hoi An-only white rose dumplings and cao lau, it was time to try something unique again! This time, we had Mi Quang, or Quang noodles, a unique noodle dish found in Central Vietnam at Mi Quang 92. If you are a noodle lover or someone seeking unique eats in Hoi An, you must check out this place with me! (´• ω •`)ノ

Why We Chose Mi Quang 92 to Try Mi Quang

There are many places in Hoi An that sell mi quang. But hubs and I decided to find one closer to our hotel as we wanted to conserve our energy for our evening tour later that day. That was how we came across Mi Quang 92, a restaurant just a 5-minute walk from our hotel in Hoi An! And the best thing is, reviews for this place were fantastic!

This was not our first time having mi quang. We actually tried it for the first time after our tour to My Son Sanctuary, a place of interest I will share more about next time. For that experience, we had it at someone’s house, and it was really delicious. So, with that experience, hubs and I wanted to see how different the one at Mi Quang 92 would be in comparison. (´• ω •`)

Dining at Mi Quang 92

We got to the restaurant around 11.45 AM, which was before the lunch hour, and luckily, there wasn’t a lunch crowd. But the interesting thing is, many foreigners were having a meal there. Why is this interesting since we were in the touristy Hoi An? Well, that is because Mi Quang 92 looks like a place that only locals would visit, so we were surprised to see so many foreigners in the restaurant. (ᵔ◡ᵔ)

As with all places that we have been to for our meals, we always do our homework before coming. So, once we got seated, we knew what we wanted to order. The female owner came over to take our order, and I was amazed by her English! Since we hardly come by people who speak perfect English, it took us by surprise. (*/ω\)

What We Ordered at the Restaurant

Many people were recommending the Fish Noodles, and that was what I wanted. But sadly, it was no longer available! This also came as a surprise since it was not even lunchtime yet! (ノД`) So I got the next best option – Pork and Shrimp, while hubs got the Beef.

If you Google mi quang, you will realise that many are shown with dark yellow noodles. Interestingly, the ones we had in Hoi An, both here and during the My Son Sanctuary tour, were white in colour. Maybe that is Hoi An’s take on mi quang. Anyway, the look, texture, and taste are similar to our kway teow (flat rice noodles) in Singapore. (ᵔ◡ᵔ)

Our Thoughts on the Mi Quang

The Pork and Shrimp mi quang came with pork slices, prawns, quail eggs and a piece of rice cracker. Hubs’ Beef mi quang came with beef slices and a piece of rice cracker. And instead of quail eggs, his came with half a hard-boiled egg. The pork and beef were quite tender, though I prefer the taste of the beef more so than the pork. Both of us also like the quail eggs better than the hard-boiled egg. Somehow, the former just tasted better. If only the restaurant allowed us to pick and choose the ingredients we wanted, a beef mi quang with quail eggs and the rice cracker would be perfect. Haha! (*/ω\)

There was hardly any broth in the noodles, just enough to cover them. In general, the mi quang here has a lighter taste. For those who prefer something light, the noodles at Mi Quang 92 might be perfect for you. But for hubs and I, we thought it was rather average. We tried adding the chilli and fish sauce, which helped make the noodles taste better. I guess our taste buds are too used to stronger tastes.

That said, we loved the rice cracker on the side. It was crunchy and nutty, making it a nice snack if we could have it on the go. Hehe. For those who don’t like beansprouts, I am proud to report that mi quang DOES NOT have beansprouts! So slurp your noodles away~! (>ᴗ•)

Overall Experience at Mi Quang 92

Having had mi quang at another place before this visit, I would say the mi quang here at Mi Quang 92 tastes lighter than expected. I was ready to be enveloped by the flavourful noodles, but sadly, they fell short of the flavour I sought. I had a higher expectation for this place since they had glowing reviews on Google. Oh well. ヽ(´ー` )┌ That said, every restaurant has its way of preparing the broth, so for people looking for a lighter taste, Mi Quang 92 might be perfect for you. ( ´ ω ` )
