What is Mot Hoi An Known For?

While creating a list of food spots to visit in Hoi An, we came across a few YouTubers recommending Mot for its herbal drink. In all the videos, the place looks super crowded. And everyone seems to be busy taking photos of their drinks in the background.

Intrigued by its popularity and probably Insta-worthy drink, hubs and I decided to try it ourselves to see if it was worth the hype. (ᵔ◡ᵔ) Oh, and if the words herbal drink have stopped you from continuing this post, don’t! Since you are already here, why not continue reading to find out what it really tastes like before you go? I promise you won’t regret it. ( ´ ω ` )

Cooling Down the Herbal Drink from Mot

Seeing how Mot is always crowded in the videos, we decided to drop by early to avoid the crowd. Most people visit Hoi An for a day trip in the evening, so we decided to come during the day instead. When we got to Mot, there was hardly a queue, and we got our herbal drinks easily! Yay! (๑˃ᴗ˂)ﻭ

The weather was crazy hot that day (or maybe every other day in July), so we decided to take shelter inside the shop. Yes, there are seats inside Mot Hoi An since this place also serves food. (ᵔ◡ᵔ) Even though we only had drinks, they didn’t stop us from sitting inside. But most of the time, people would be seen standing outside with their drinks since this place should be packed in the evening.

For something branded as an herbal drink, I did not get a single hint of herbal taste from it. The drink was absolutely refreshing and delicious, good for the hot weather! I don’t really know the ingredients, but it tasted quite similar to a honey lemon and lemongrass drink. I would even liken it to the drink we loved and had at Cao Lau Ba Le. Maybe traditional herbal tea in Hoi An is supposed to taste like this. And if so, I really could have this every day. Haha! We didn’t come by an instant mix of this drink, but if we did, I would definitely snatch up many packs to bring home for daily consumption. ( ´ ω ` )

Something Worth Mentioning about Mot Hoi An

I am unsure if this is a one-off occurrence, but there was a commotion outside Mot when we were about to leave the shop. An older man was heard reprimanding some people in Vietnamese language outside his property, which is directly opposite Mot Hoi An. He was loud and drew a lot of attention from people along the street. Since we were indoors, we didn’t really catch the whole incident very clearly but only managed to peek out to see what was happening.

This is based on my guesswork, so I might be wrong. But maybe because Mot Hoi An is so popular there is always a crowd, and these people always end up hanging out or sitting outside the older man’s property while having their drinks. He probably doesn’t like that people are blocking it. Like I said, I might be wrong about this. But just in case, try to avoid crowding around that area unless you want to get scolded! (×_×)

Is Mot Hoi An Worth the Hype?

The drink was super refreshing for the hot weather in Hoi An. I absolutely love how it tastes and how beautiful its presentation is. Since the drink at Cao Lau Ba Le tasted almost the same, you might find this herbal drink somewhere else in Hoi An without the queue. But that is just my guess. For easier access and the gram, I think the Mot Hoi An herbal drink is worth the hype~!

It doesn’t take them long to prepare a cup of the herbal drink. So even if there is a long queue, it shouldn’t be too bad. But if possible, I would suggest you come earlier to avoid the long queue. (ᵔ◡ᵔ) Hoi An is usually more crowded at night since tour groups would come for the boat ride and night market, both of which I shared my experience in a separate post. So if you can come before evening, you can probably avoid some of the crowd.

Also, remember to steer clear of the property opposite Mot Hoi An! I don’t know if the older man only appears during the day. But it is better to stay out of the way than get scolded. Don’t say I never remind you! (´• ω •`)
