After we checked out from Villa Kelusa, it was time for us to explore a brand new place in Bali. And that is none other than Sanur! Sanur is known for its more laid-back vibes, and being such homebodies, we wanted to experience the laid-backness for ourselves. So off we went looking for accommodation in Sanur! And we found Smart Comfort Apartments in an area we think might be best for first-timers in Sanur. But is it? Well, you have to continue reading to find out more! ☆ミ(o*・ω・)ノ

Why We Chose Smart Comfort Apartments?

As first-timers to Sanur, hubs and I made sure that we did our homework to find out where the best area to stay was. We wanted a place that gave us access to ample food choices and convenience stores. Realising that Jalan Danau Tamblingan is the main street in Sanur, we tried to find a place near this area.

There are a lot of accommodations in the area that we were looking at. But sadly, there wasn’t one that fit our requirements for a fully enclosed living and sleeping area. Many private pool villas in Bali use the open concept, whereby the living area and kitchen are usually exposed. But hubs and I prefer an enclosed space to avoid dealing with bugs and what-nots.

I was almost giving up, and then suddenly, hubs spotted Smart Comfort Apartments! Not only does it have a fully enclosed space, it is also located just a short walking distance from the main street! After checking out some reviews, we decided to go ahead and book a stay there. ⸜(*ˊᗜˋ*)⸝

Arrival and Checking In to Smart Comfort Apartments

We checked out of Villa Kelusa at noon. So when we arrived at Smart Comfort Apartments, it was still too early for us to check in. Unlike a standalone villa, they have a guardhouse here. We left our luggage with them and roam around the area a bit. Do you remember I mentioned looking for a place with a convenience store near us? Well, we don’t have that here. Instead, we have a supermarket! Since it is just a 7-minute walk away and along the main street, we decided to check out the Arta Sedana Sanur supermarket.

The supermarket is reasonably sized and has everything we need, such as snacks, drinks, alcohol and even a travel adapter! For those looking to stay long in Sanur, this supermarket is definitely the kind you want in your area. The only negative thing about this supermarket is the lack of air-conditioning here. It got stuffy after a while, and I couldn’t wait to get out of there. (*/ω\) But other than that, it was perfect. So, I guess we gain some and lose some!

After the supermarket visit, it was almost time to check in! The process was rather fast and easy. And when we got to our villa, our two pieces of luggage were already there. I love how efficient they were! (๑˃ᴗ˂)ﻭ

Hello to our Private Pool Villa at Smart Comfort Apartments!

From the property’s name, it might sound like we will stay in an apartment. It would be silly of us to stay in an apartment in Bali when there are so many private pool villas here! So, of course, we were staying in a private pool villa! Smart Comfort Apartments has eight private pool villas here. The corridor looks similar to what you have in an apartment building. But a cosy but spacious private pool villa greeted us once we passed the door. (>ω^)

Functional Kitchen and Living Room

The layout resembles a service apartment with a kitchenette connected to the living room. The living area has no dining table, so we used the coffee table for meals instead. If we wanted to have a more comfortable dining spot, there is also a table and chairs by the pool for our use. Even though the kitchenette looks small, it is functional. It has all the necessary glassware and cutleries to have a meal in the villa. The refrigerator is also reasonably sized and works well to make our drinks cold, which is very important in a tropical country like Bali! (´・ᴗ・ ` )

Since there was no TV in the bedroom, we hung out mainly in the living room. The sofa was big and comfy, but the TV, on the other hand, was a bit too small. Haha! The cable network was also slightly wonky, but at least it worked, so no complaints! It’s too bad it is not a smart TV; otherwise, being able to cast to the TV would make the whole experience so much better. ( ´ ω ` )

Bedroom, Sockets and Plugs

The bedroom is just beside the living area and is reasonably sized. We could open up both our 29-inch luggage under the work desk. I believe the property is not new; hence, there are no in-built USB ports and universal sockets. To overcome the issue of not having USB ports, they have included a plug with USB ports on one of the sockets, which is really thoughtful of them. Unfortunately, the universal plug they provided was a bit sparky, so we didn’t dare to use it.

Anyway, if you intend to use the sockets, make sure to bring the correct travel adapter! They had a plug-type F socket, which had a round base. We thought we were prepared, but ours is a plug type C! That was why we got a new travel adapter from Arta Sedana Sanur. Luckily, we have a supermarket near us, as a convenience store usually doesn’t sell adapters. Phew. (´• ω •`)ノ

Separate Toilet and Shower Area

The toilet and shower area are separated. And I think this is designed with convenience in mind. Why do I say so? Well, the shower area has two doors, one from the bedroom and another from the pool. So when we were done chilling in the pool, we could walk straight into the shower area without walking through the villa! I honestly thought this was quite a fantastic idea. (ᵔ◡ᵔ)

The shampoo and shower gel and the shower area in our villa

The toilet, too, has two doors. One is from the living room, and another from the bedroom. I do not know why they want to do it this way if only two people live in the villa. Is it in cases when you have a stomachache outside and want to make a mad dash for the toilet, it will be faster to go from the living room instead? Haha! Honestly, I don’t know. (・・;)ゞ

Anyway, the shower area is rather spacious for two people. It even has a seating area so that you can sit and shower there! Not that we did it, but we used it to put our bathroom amenities, which I thought was a generous space. ( ´ ω ` ) The toilet, on the other hand, felt a bit tight in space. With the toilet bowl on one side and mirror with basin on the other, there is limited space to stand. Probably could have cut some space from the shower area to the toilet. (´・ᴗ・ ` )

Private Pool with a Good Length to Swim & Chill

After Villa Kelusa’s deep pool, I was so happy to have a private pool that lets me stand up easily! Haha! The private pool here at Smart Comfort Apartments is 1.2 metres deep and 6 meters long. I also swam a bit here since I know I can touch the pool floor. (ᵔ◡ᵔ)

A view of the sky and me with my signature pose at the private pool villa

Even though we don’t have a view here, I thought it was nice to have an open view of the sky from the pool. I love to float backwards in the pool to admire the sky in peace. It is also nice to just hear yourself breathe and nothing else when the water is blocking your ears.

Things Worth Mentioning about Smart Comfort Apartments

Great Air-Conditioning in the Villa

I thought this might be important to people who always feel hot. Or when in a hot place like Bali. When we were in Ubud, the weather was cloudy and rainy. But when we got to Sanur, it was blazing hot. So much so that I would very much prefer to stay indoors than go out to explore. (*/ω\)

So, I was happy that both the air-conditioning units in the villa could make the villa feel nice and comfortable. Since a ceiling fan is installed in the living room and bedroom, we could also adjust the air-conditioning to a higher temperature and use the fan to cool down the whole area. Oh, and the air conditioning didn’t hit our faces at night, so we also had a few good nights’ rest.

Option to Open Up the Whole Space

The nice thing about the layout here at Smart Comfort Apartments is the use of sliding doors in the living area. We could open up the space and enjoy peaceful nights in the living room. Or we could also close up the whole thing to keep things out. There is an option to have an open concept while staying here, which I think is good to cater to people of different preferences.

Peaceful Days and Nights

Smart Comfort Apartments is located in a small alley, but that doesn’t mean there are no activities in this area. I was surprised that the alley has more activities than the villas in the alleys we have stayed in Seminyak! As we walked towards the main street, many small warungs and restaurants lined the alleys. Besides that, there were also many homestays in this area.

It might sound like many activities were happening around us, but it was hardly noisy when we were in the villa, both during the day and at night! I was actually surprised by how peaceful it is here. Except for the occasional sounds of motorbikes passing by, we could hear no other noise. It was so quiet that I worried we were making too much noise in our pool. Haha! (´・ᴗ・ ` )

Compared to when we were disturbed by the howling of dogs and meowing of cats at Villa Bella, this place was an absolute haven for us. We love the whole vibe and peacefulness of this place and Sanur. (´ ω `♡)

Sunshine through the Shower Area

Now that I have raved about many things at Smart Comfort Apartments, I must mention some minor issues. The first and most striking issue was the sunlight from the shower area. Remember I told you the shower area is connected to the private pool? Well, there is also no curtain or blinds blocking the glass door. So, in the morning, sunlight was pouring through this area, and the bright light woke us up. Haha!

For people sensitive to light, you might want to consider wearing an eye mask to sleep if you intend to sleep in. Alternatively, it is, of course, to wake up early and take a morning stroll at Sanur’s beach walk. (´・ᴗ・ ` )

No Peephole on the Main Door

I don’t know if this is common, but there is no peephole on the main door. I thought this was quite a weird thing not to have since you are not able to see who is in front of the door. There is also no double lock or latch, so once I open the door, I am vulnerable to whoever is in front of it. ٩(× ×)۶ Even though there is a guard house at the entrance to ensure the residents’ safety, I thought it would be good to have it for security purposes. (´-ω-`)

Absolutely Amazing Service from the Staff

The staff at Smart Comfort Apartments were all amazing! The lady checking us in was really lovely and friendly. Since we usually don’t need housekeeping and only request toilet paper, they were delivered promptly. Since there was a guardhouse at the entrance, the guard also helped to inform the GoJek driver which unit we stayed in if we didn’t manage to go out in time to the entrance to get our food.

We had a minor issue with the shower area’s glass door lock. Usually, it doesn’t matter if a shower door lock is not working, especially when only two of us are staying in the villa. But since the glass door connects our bedroom to the outside, we thought we had better have it looked at for security purposes. The staff came promptly to help us look at the problem. And it was immediately resolved the next day when the technician came in to rectify the issue. ( ´ ω ` )

Overall Experience at Smart Comfort Apartments

Hubs and I absolutely enjoyed our stay here at Smart Comfort Apartments. Everything about the property and its location was perfect. The villa is nice and cosy, just the right size for the both of us to chill and work in. There were some evenings when it was cool outside, and I opened my laptop and started working at the poolside table. I could even admit the stars in the sky while doing so.

Even though we are not located in the heart of Sanur, we are connected to many food choices within walking distance and through the GoJek and Grab apps. A supermarket nearby made this place even more livable than just a tourist accommodation. The staff here was always ready to help us whenever we had issues. For everything I have mentioned and the laid-back vibe of Sanur, I look forward to coming back here in future. And I think you should too! ⸜( *ˊᵕˋ* )⸝
