Hello hello, we have finally come to the last part of The Residence Bintan series! I was only planning to write only two parts but I guess I was doing too much sh*t-talking. Nevertheless, I hope that you have enjoyed the posts so far! Anyway, it’s finally time to talk about the activities that you can do at The Residence Bintan! ☆ ~(‘▽^人)

✨ BEFORE YOU GO ✨

Countless Activities, Both Free and Paid~

During our first visit, we didn’t have much time to explore the resort. The only activity that kept us occupied was the private pool villa in our Beachfront Villa. (´・ᴗ・ ` ) Since we had 6 days this time, we decided to roam around the resort to keep ourselves entertained. (@´ー`)ノ゙

From the resort’s website, you would find that the resort offers a lot of activities and facilities. Hubs and I prefer to spend our money on eating so we skipped all the paid activities. So I am here to tell you what are the facilities and free activities that you can use and enjoy at the resort~! (´・ᴗ・ ` )

Small but Well-Furnished Gym

Since I was halfway through a program with the Sweat app, I thought of using the gym during our stay to stay on track. This is something that hubs and I never do when we were overseas and I was excited. (o´▽`o)

A Locked Facility, Something that Hardly Happens in a Resort

We wanted to check out the gym on our first day in the resort to find out what is available and surprise surprise! The gym was LOCKED. We didn’t know who to approach and there was no phone outside the gym, so we ended up walking back to our villa. Hubs called the reception later that day to make sure that the gym is open for our usage the next morning. The staff mentioned that it was supposed to be opened so we weren’t sure who was not doing their job. ┐( ˘_˘ )┌

All was well the next morning. For the big space that The Residence Bintan owns, surprisingly the resort doesn’t have a bigger gym. (*/ω\) But having said so, the gym had everything that you would need to have a good workout, including some machines.

Spa music was playing on their music player when we got there. It was such a weird choice of music for a gym though. Haha! I cannot imagine working out to spa music but it was probably trying to set a relaxing mode once you stepped in? (*°▽°*) Also, the air conditioning was not on, probably to save on electricity, so it was really warm when we stepped into the gym. |・ω・)

Time to Work Out!

Anyway, I was mainly lifting for my workouts and it had all the weights that I need. I was using up to 20kgs so you should be safe if you are not lifting way too heavy. There was also an incline bench so I could do some hip thrusts and Bulgarian split squats.

Funny story. I wanted to move the bench to a better spot for my workout. But either I was too weak or the bench was locked, I just could NOT move it! Haha! So I ended up working out in a small area, not that there is a lot of space to start with. I cannot imagine having A LOT of people using the gym at the same time in a tight space. (*/ω\)

Since hubs was not on any program, he ended up using the cable machine the most as well as the treadmill. There was also the leg curl/leg extension machine as well as a flat bench press machine. I got to say I was pretty impressed with these machines in there. Or more like I was quite excited to see these machines since I have NEVER been to a public gym! I ended up substituting some of my triceps and biceps workouts with the cable machine, which was so fun. ( ´ ▽ ` )

Anyway, at a corner of the gym, there are some step benches as well as yoga blocks. I would have wished for some yoga mats in the gym as I wanted to do some floor work. The flooring ain’t the most comfortable and note that they are NOT the black gym flooring. So it was definitely not comfortable having my knee/back on the floor. (×_×)⌒☆

Yet Another Lock Incident

We dropped by the gym three times during our stay. We had no problems for the first two times. So imagine our surprise when we found that the gym was locked the third time that we were there. ヽ(°〇°)ノ Since there was no phone outside the gym and we got there pretty early (around 7.30 AM), the next-door spa was not open and our only choice was to walk back to our villa. (ノД`)

While we were turning back, a guest suddenly opened up the side door and asked if we were going to use the gym. It seems like he managed to slide into the side door as it was not locked properly! (o_O) So we ended up doing the same since the front door can only be unlocked by a key. I don’t know who is in charge of the gym but someone has got to ensure facilities are open for guests’ usage! (҂ `з´ )

It’s Spa Time~!

We didn’t get to try their spa the first time we stayed at the resort so how can we miss the chance this time? When we first stepped into the massage reception area, it felt almost like a sauna. I am not sure if this is usual as it was really hot just being in the reception area. I cannot imagine the staff having to endure the heat for the whole day. (´-ω-`)

When we were booking our appointment, the staff asked if we were okay with one male and one female masseur. As the resort was operating on a reduced headcount, there were only two staff doing massages for guests, one male and one female. We would usually do a couple’s massage in the same room. But in view of having a male masseur in the room, hubs suggested that we have our massage separately instead. So sad but not like it made a difference since we would be enjoying our massage separately anyway. (´ ∀ ` *)

We opted for their signature massage and luckily the massage room was air-conditioned so it was nice and comfortable when I walked in. A nice foot bath was given before starting the signature massage. The massage felt like a Balinese massage but the routine felt a bit different from the ones I got so I can’t be sure. Nevertheless, the massage was good but unfortunately, nothing to shout about. (´-ω-`) But hubs, on the other hand, kind of enjoyed his massage. So I am not sure if it has got to do with the masseur. Maybe better luck next time?

Finally, Time to Learn some New Games!

I don’t remember seeing this place the first time we visited. It was most definitely ‘cos we had hardly any time to explore the resort hence missing out on a lot of things there. (¬‿¬ ) But there is actually a games room just below The Dining Room! ヽ(°〇°)ノ

There are quite a number of casual activities that you could do there. Simple games like Chinese and Western chess and Tic-Tac-Toe as well as table games such as mahjong and carrom. These are games that we used to play when we were young! I remembered the good old times back in college when we would start playing carrom during our lunch breaks. Ah, the younger days~ ( ´ ▽ ` )

Since we were there when there was hardly anyone staying at the resort, we had the whole place to ourselves whenever we went there after our lunch. So yay for that ‘cos I get to learn some new games during our stay! I had never played darts before so it was fun to try it out. Besides that, we also tried out billard as well as ping pong~! My favourite has got to be billard ‘cos I got hubs to keep playing more rounds with me. Haha! Ping pong was good but it worked up so much sweat that we decided to just stay with billard. (๑˃ᴗ˂)ﻭ

Besides the games room, we also noticed some outdoor games being placed beside the water sports/activities centre. Not as entertaining as the games room but good for some outdoor fun with your friends and family~

Age is Showing, Time for some Maintenance

The game boards on the wall in the games room are magnetic boards and they are definitely showing age as some of the pieces can only be placed at very specific spots in order to stick. The carrom board looks like it was just getting by but the worst of all was the air conditioning in the room.

To conserve electricity, the air conditioning was not turned on whenever we were there. There were a total of four air conditioning units but only TWO were working. The room was hot as a sauna when we stepped in. Having the four working units would be ideal but luckily the two units were working well once we got them running else I cannot imagine staying in there for more than a minute. ٩(× ×)۶

Swim, Sun and Chill

The Residence Bintan has a total of 127 rooms, of which 37 of them are private pool villas. So for people like us who have their own pool, we would hardly utilise the main pool. During our stay, we saw some people enjoying their fun time in the pool while on another day, two ladies were just chilling on the deck bed before taking a dip. All is peaceful during the time when we visited the resort so makes me wonder about the busy times.

We do love visiting The Pool Bar for its food! There was a constant sea breeze blowing in our direction so it was so nice to chill there while having a meal. I have shared our dining experience in my previous post. You definitely need to read it to find out what The Pool Bar is serving ‘cos it serves one of the BEST food in the resort! ╰(*´︶`*)╯♡

The Activity We Did the Most – WALK

Yes, the activity that we did the most was actually walking! If you have stayed at The Residence Bintan before, you would know that it’s no joke to walk from your villa to the Dining Room if you stay a distance away. Most guests would call for a buggy or just ride their bicycles. Well, as I have mentioned, I don’t know how to ride a bicycle so that’s out. And hubs and I usually don’t like to trouble people so we would rather walk than call for a buggy. I mean it’s counted as a workout anyway so why not? (*¯︶¯*)

Since I was trying to hit my 5,000 steps every day these days, we decided that it would be a good opportunity for us to walk and explore the whole resort compound. EVERY DAY. The Residence Bintan did a good job with their walking/running track. It is really nice to walk on and there were a lot of flowers and greens to see along the way as well. But, they don’t have a lot of big trees along the path so if you intend to walk, please remember your sunscreen and hat/cap for protection! We got sunburnt the first day after our walk! (*/ω\)

The resort was getting ready for more guests to come back, especially back then when we visited Singapore has further relaxed its rules, so we saw a lot of staff doing maintenance work during our afternoon walk. Once in a while, a staff would spot us doing our walks and offer a buggy ride. But we would always decline and tell him/her that we were walking to the end and back. They must be thinking these two Singaporeans must be crazy doing their walks under the hot hot sun. (¬‿¬ )

Other Facilities Worth Mentioning

While exploring the resort compound, we saw the Kakato Kids Club which was not opened on the day we were there. I supposed since there were no kids in the resort, they didn’t open it but it should be opened when the occupancy rate goes up as more family visits. There was a set of swings outside the Kids Club and I was so ecstatic to play on it as it has been a long long time since I last got on a swing. I ended up swinging too high and too fast and I scare myself. Haha! Had to stop after a while. Yeah, age does this to people yo. |ω・)ノ

There was also the Earth Basket, where you could find the resort’s herb and vegetable garden. We passed by the sign briefly but didn’t walk in as we were worried about mosquitoes. We have already gotten quite some bites during our stay there. (/ˍ・、) The assistant general manager did mention to us that we could go there to get fresh eggs for our breakfast! But yeah, we didn’t go. Maybe next time when the mosquito season is over? (´・ᴗ・ ` )

In case you need to use a computer for some work, which I doubt you would need in such a beautiful resort, there is also the business centre that is located just beside the reception. We didn’t stay in there for long but just dropped in to check out the room. (´。• ᵕ •。`)

Overall Experience

And just like that, I am at the end of this post and series on The Residence Bintan! I hope I have given you some insights as to what you can do at the resort. 。゚(TヮT)゚。

To be honest, we spent a lot of our time in our private pool as well as walking. We came to The Residence Bintan for relaxation so doing anything else besides relaxing is just not us. There are people who prefer to do a lot of activities when staying at a resort, but hubs and I just like doing nothing, ‘cos that’s what staying at a resort means to us. That’s why we like staying at resorts with a private pool for more in-villa activities. If we wanted to get busy with activities, we leave that to when we are doing city tours. ( ´ ω ` )

Overall, hubs and I really enjoyed our stay with The Residence Bintan. There are definitely some things that need attention, which I hope with an increase in manpower and occupancy rate would help the resort. The Residence Bintan is our nearest source for a private pool villa so you bet that we would definitely be back here again soon. And this time, I am going for Rica Rica, more pizzas and billard sessions!
