Since our villa is in a super private location in Ubud, we chose to stay in the villa rather than go out. But there is one thing we couldn’t miss out on: getting a massage! If you come to Bali and do not get a massage, you might as well not come already. (´・ᴗ・ ` ) While searching for a spa house near our villa, I came across Ubud Traditional Spa. Drawn by its raving ratings of 4.9 stars and reviewers’ generally amazing feedback, we decided to visit it! (´• ω •`)ノ

Transportation to Ubud Traditional Spa

Making an appointment with Ubud Traditional Spa was fast and easy. Hubs dropped them a text on WhatsApp, and within a short period, they replied to confirm our appointment. I was initially attracted by the fact that they provide transportation to and from the spa house for guests in the Ubud area. But we probably stayed further and in a more private location, so we had to pay 80K IDR (~6.90 SGD) per car per way instead. Not that it is a problem for us since we had to make transport arrangements such as booking a car from GoJek. Anyway, they informed us when we were making the appointment, so it was not charged to us when we arrived. It’s just something that I thought you should know. (´• ω •`)

Anyway, considering the price, the car provided was comfortable and spacious. I also loved that the driver was dressed in the traditional Balinese outfit to pick us up! Not only that, he came earlier and waited for us outside our villa. So far, service has been outstanding, and we were impressed even before getting there. (ᵔ◡ᵔ) And I later realised that the outfit was Ubud Traditional Spa’s uniform! Everyone looked so lovely in them. ( ´ ω ` )

Choosing our Preferred Oil before the Massage

When we arrived at Ubud Traditional Spa, we were served our welcome drink, a refreshing glass of cold water with lemongrass and lime. We were asked to fill out a form while waiting for the room to be ready. When that was done, one of the staff asked us to choose our preferred massage oil.

Ubud Traditional Spa presents its massage oil in a really interesting manner. Instead of just having the massage oil in the bottle, they also had the corresponding plant beside each massage oil. Having been to so many places for massage, this is my first time seeing the plant matching the massage oil we will use. This is quite a unique touch. (@´ー`)ノ゙

Once we had chosen our preferred oil, it was time to go to our room for our massage! We passed a beautiful passageway before being led into a dimly lit room. It is as if we were transported into another dimension and ready to relax fully in this space. (-ω-) zzZ

Massage Experience at Ubud Traditional Spa

After we changed into our robes, our massage therapists started us off with a foot scrub before moving onto the massage bed to start our Bali Traditional Massage. In general, the massage was quite good. The pressure was on point throughout the body except for the head massage. That one was a bit of a miss for us. For me, the massage therapist was slightly tugging at my hair, so it was somewhat uncomfortable. It was not the way I wanted to end the session. (´-ω-`)

Overall Experience

Anyway, for the 60-minute Bali Traditional Massage, we paid 241K++ IDR (~21++ SGD). Considering the price, we had quite a good experience here at Ubud Traditional Spa. The pressure was on point, and the music in the background was so soothing that I struggled to stay awake. I also love that they provide complimentary pick-up services for guests staying within Ubud. And even if we had to pay the additional cost of transport, the prompt pick-up and service were good. So, for that, I think the high ratings on Google were justified. If you are in Ubud and this area, consider coming here for an affordable and good massage experience!

I recommend checking out Alila Spa for those who want a luxurious and fantastic spa experience! We went to the one in Ubud, but it was slightly lacking, though still good. In case you didn’t know, our favourite spa is at Alila Seminyak, which is still the best to date. It’s worth considering if you want a luxurious spa experience in Bali! (´ ω `♡)
