A good thing about staying at Swiss Garden Residences is its proximity to many cafes and restaurants. With so many to choose from, we decided to check out VCR cafe for our first breakfast in Kuala Lumpur. Let me share with you what’s good about the cafe~! (´• ω •`)ノ

Why We Choose VCR Cafe?

When hubs and I were looking for a good cafe to visit, VCR cafe would always appear on the list. Not only is it recommended by many, but the cafe also has almost 4,000 good reviews! Since the cafe is just right next door to our apartment at Swiss Garden Residences, we decided to check it out to find out what it has to offer.

A Popular Spot for Locals and Nomads

We were there slightly late, around 10.30 AM, and the back of the cafe was full. The only available tables we saw were in front of the counter, so hubs and I decided to take a table there. I missed out on the 2nd floor until I saw people coming down. Haha! I don’t know where my eyes were, but please check out the 2nd floor if the cafe looks full. (´・ᴗ・ ` )

The cafe looks like a popular spot with tourists and nomads. I said nomads because we had one guy who had a full workstation setup beside us when we were there. Then another lady who seemed like a regular came in and started casually hanging out at her table. The good thing about VCR cafe is that the staff speaks good English, making it easy for tourists and foreigners to communicate with them. Oh, and they were really friendly as well! ( ´ ω ` )

What We Ordered at the Cafe

During our travel to Bali, we have seen Avocado Toast many times at many cafes. Hubs and I always wondered what makes this a popular breakfast food on social media. So, this time, I decided to order the infamous Avocado Toast! Besides that, we also got a Ham and Cheese Croissant. This item is not on the menu but at the pastry display counter. And finally, we, of course, had to get ourselves a cup of Flat White~! (ᵔ◡ᵔ)

Absolutely Amazing Coffee & Delish Toast

First off, the coffee! The flat white was absolutely fantastic. It could probably be on par with our favourite coffee in Bali! The coffee was of the correct bitterness for us, and the foam was of the right consistency. However, if you are someone who doesn’t like your coffee too strong, this might be a bit too much for you. But for hubs and I, it was just right. It definitely helped to wake us up from our sleepy state!

The Avocado Toast and Flat White

The avocado toast took a while to come out, so hubs and I had to go really slow with the croissant and coffee. Haha! As I mentioned, this was my first time trying avocado toast. Honestly, I kind of like it! I don’t know if it tastes the same at all the cafes, but I think the sourdough toast was the highlight here at VCR Cafe! When eaten together with the yolk of the sunny-side-up, the toast has an extra creamy flavour to it. What I also like is the pomegranate. It helps to balance the dish with some slight tartiness. So, yep, I like it! (´。• ᵕ •。`)

My Favourite Breakfast Item from VCR Cafe

And lastly, it is the ham and cheese croissant! For such a simple item, you might think nothing of it. But surprisingly, this was actually my favourite one at VCR Cafe. When it was served to our table, you could smell the lovely smell of the melted cheese. The croissant was flaky and soft. The combination of the saltiness of the ham and crusty cheese with the flaky croissant was absolutely amazing. I am salivating while typing this. Haha! (っ˘ڡ˘ς)

Luckily, VCR Cafe is just beside our apartment, so I could have this almost every day, which I did! The croissant was just as good even when I had it as a takeaway. Even on the day we were flying back to Singapore, I made sure that I got my hands on it before we went. That was how much I loved this croissant. (´ ε ` )♡

Carrot Cake for Dessert

Out of curiosity, hubs and I got a piece of carrot cake one day when we wanted dessert after our meal. We have not had a lot of carrot cakes, but the one we had here was not too bad. At least it was not overly sweet like the one we had in Singapore. The sweetness of the carrot cake from VCR Cafe was just right. But talking about carrot cake, the best one we had was at Revolver Espresso at Seminyak. If you are ever in Seminyak, go for its coffee and carrot cake! (´• ω •`)

Overall Experience at VCR Cafe

Hubs and I enjoyed our breakfast at VCR Cafe. But the two things we kept coming back for during our stay at Swiss Garden Residences were its flat white and croissant. Especially its coffee, you can never go wrong with them. If you are a major coffee lover, you should definitely check them out! ( ´ ω ` )
